Will Opticoat Retop .....

Without Polishing, do you think Opticoat MAY recoat.

Different priorities - hobbies, etc. I've relegated the daily driver to 2 week washes, wheels get washed washed once a week instead of my ritual 3 day wheel washes...

Opticoat has been AMAZING on my daily driver. Proof that it's harder than my Jet Black Schratz Paint. At least 80% less marring - same washing/DRYING regimen/technique.

I don't plan to polish the car for winter prep. A light clay however. Do you think Opticoat will apply ontop of itself - on a 9-10 month old prior Opticoat. I know it's not best practices ......or am I just wasting product.

I'd do a quick polish afterward the claying and then Opticoat. You probably don't need it though. I'm surprised you actually need claying.

If cleaned properly I see no need to re-apply. Especially if it's less then a year old. With a good cleaning its as good as new.

Claying is easy, quick and in my ~head~ at least give it the best surface/prep I want to give timewise to this application of Opticoat.

Yes, I so agree it's still healty and on-it. Just doing my *winter prep*.

I talked to David G at Optimum a few weeks ago about this. After it cures fully ( 90 days ) nothing will bond to it, including more Opti Coat.

From posts by Chris at Optimum I think you can recoat after 90 days if you give it a light polishing.

My apologies for not being clearer. I should have added that you can reapply after 90 days if the paintwork is properly prepped. :)

Don't see why it is even necessary, I've had it on customers and my parents cars more than 3 years and its still going strong.

Have you polished any of the cars you've applied Opti Coat to yet?

I suppose the light polishing it to create a not so smooth surface for the OptiCoat to bite.

If I'm going to take out the buffer, I might as well take out the tape and find some time to do a full polish

If you're not polishing the paint there is no point in reapplying the OC....it doesn't wear off like a wax or sealant. If you want to add another coat at this point it will need a light polish to bond properly.

Haven't had to.

Mine I redid because when I applied it (prior to buying it from my Dad) I didn't polish it.
