Just purchased a porter cable 7424 w/pad kit from Properautocare.com( can't say enough good things about them, highly recommended). I have never used a buffer before and i am a little apprehensive about damaging my paint, I have heard it is almost idiot proof. All of you have that have previously polished and waxed by hand and now use the 7424, is there a big difference in the results using the 7424. I will be using Menzerna polishes.

thanks for your feedback

YES there is. It takes FAR less time to polish a car with a PC than it does by hand. In addition, you arms don't feel like they want to fall off after you finish.

YOu have no idea, use it once then come back and let us know what you think, I'm sure you will be pleasently suprised, but keep in mind that it does not magically lift every imperfection out of the paint

for me personally the pc 7424 lit a fire that has yet to be diminished. just do some research on the proper use of the pc. autopia has a great article on the use of the pc.

if you are using menzerna products just remember that a little goes a long way. it will make application so much easier.

the only complaint that i have is ....the pc has not been as good a product remover as i thought that it would be. i have stopped trying. now i use a good mf towel to do the removal of product. yet, when you use menzerna products removal is as easy and pie.

I was able to chop a lot of time out of my detailing with the PC. Also able to get thinner and more consistent coats when applying finishing products like Zaino or SG.

The application of detailing products with a random orbital has the advantage of ensuring an even pressure and constant contact speed, mimicking free hand motion but at a far greater speed. By allowing the weight and the random motion of the machine do the work, thus ensuring that the product is applied in a thin even layer, and will allow products to get embedded deeper into the paint film surface's porosity.

After using polishes and "swirl mark removers" by hand I gave up and decided that swirl marks on cars was just life. I then got a PC and, POOF! Swirl marks are gone, cars are wetter looking and shinier and I'm out hundreds of dollars(and I mean many hundreds in just the last two months!) because I can't stop buying waxes and polishes!

You can polish more deeply and evenly by machine vs. hand. Take it from someone who detailed cars professionally by hand for more than 10 years. :)

$$$ well spent on the PC.

Last year I bought PC without knowing how to use it, applied wrong pads, wrong type of polish, handling the towels wrong...etc., thought detailing's work was not for me. However, after discovering this site, polishing never been so easy.

Just like other said, read the "how to " section religiously. Prep the surface good, select the right polish and pad. You will be surprise what you and the pc can do. Reserve your engine to do more stunning finish. Glad I did not dump the machine.
