will California Car Duster cause scratches?

I use a CCD in between washes to remove dust. It works great, I always keep it in its storage bag when its not being used, and I shake it off between panels. I just want to make sure its not causing swirl marks or anything. Thanks. And how dirty is too dirty for it to get?

If you try search function you will find a ton of info. I did it by typing in ccd and california car duster and some threads came up. There are mixed feelings about it, I know that much.

Hope that helps! :)

Yes, it can scratch if the right conditions are present: heavy dirt on the car, stuck in the duster, pushing hard on the duster while dusting, etc. Even the best mfs could scratch under similar conditions. In my experience and IMHO if you just barely pass over the surface with it moving in one direction, several strokes, one at a time, etc it won't scratch.

actually i did search first and the threads I found didnt answer my question completely, so I started my own. :)

Here's my take on the CCD...

I use it all the time for my black Grand Prix. Never scratched the paint from using it.

If there is a layer of dust or pollen on the car, I use the CCD, shaking after every long stroke.

Anything more than a layer of dust, I switch to QD or QEW. For example, if the dirt is "stuck" to the surface by moisture that has dried...QD...

I must qualify this by saying the CCD works best when there is a nice protective layer of polish, sealant or wax on the car, making it very slick.

The slicker the surface, the better it works....
