Why you may want to try Autoglym duo (pics)

pugoman you should speak to the guys at the jag heritage museum.after showing them at the classic car show at the NEC how good Mothers performs on polishing the alloy body jag which they themselves said they have never seen look so good.and why at that same show did Autoglym back away from doing a head to head challange of polishing an old bentley to show the public which was the best product.personally i will stick to Mothers yes the jag on here looks very good and congratulations on the work put in to the car.and has anyone else found that extra gloss will disolve tar.and why has autoglym never made a clay bar

Wow! I turn my back and....

Thank you for all the encouraging comments...you make me blush. :o

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your questions.

Burlyq, I will try the PowerGloss soon...and yes, I should've used it instead of IP - very slow on this type of renovation! I urge you to try the Autoglym duo...if you follow the advice on some of the posts, you'll love the results you get with them!

RedondoV6, yes it's a real classic (you should see the red XJ120 that appears in the reflection shot - sexiest Jag ever!)

oaevo8u, thank you for your encouragement.

tegboy, thanks. Where in Victoria do you live?

ShineShop, I can't agree more. Someone said that the more they use Autoglym, the more they love it...I'm in that boat. A bit of a learning curve - applying very thin, using spray bottle, etc.

NavindraLR, thanks for the compliment. I would've entered, but didn't have enough 'before' shots to demonstrate the transformation. Next time.

Lowejackson, thanks and thanks. The photography was easy (thanks to a HP digital camera). My favourite is the door reflection shot with the red XJ120 in the background (that was finished next after this project).

JDookie, tdekany, Lochi, I used a PC and trialed several different pads. Ended up preferring the LC orange VC pad with Menzerna IP. The concave shape was perfect for caressing the many curves of the difficult body shape. Using a flat pad resulted in too much pad lift too often...resulting in much dusting and some slinging. The curved pad was perfect for this type of car. In hindsight I should've used a yellow pad with something more aggressive like PowerGloss...I still have much to learn, grasshopper.

GSRstilez, D3mon, raven, pugoman, Thumper, Scottwax, thank you all for your kind remarks. Beautiful car, great product. Its very encouraging to me to get the nod from more experienced Autopians.

whitevanman, EGP will probably dissolve many things as it has a high solvent content. I can't say why they don't sell detail clay. Maybe Rolls Royces and Bentleys in the UK are too pampered to need it. :p

Both Autoglym and Mothers are excellent products, IMO. Here in Australia they're promoted for a similar market. I have yet to do a head-to-head with the two brands, but I intend to, as I use both, and love both. I think both are sometimes under-rated in certain quarters.

On the red XJ120 I detailed, after restoring with IP/FP, I used Mothers Sealer and Glaze topped with S100. S&G is a much under-used and under-rated product, IMHO. It's similar to Megs #7, but easier to use, creates a better cosmetic effect (IMO), and is layerable.

Here's a post I made recently on the Mothers WaxForum with some pictures of the XJ120. Love that car! Seeexxxyyy!

And I love Autoglym! :bow

in the words of Bill Lawry "And he's a victorian"

Great to see some more aussies on here, doing fantastic work, especially a victorian.

Where in Vic are you? Brighton here.:xyxthumbs

Myles, I recently moved to Camberwell. Before that we were neighbours - I lived in Caulfield.

Wow! You joined in 2001.

Do you detail for a living, or just a hobby?

I couldn't agree more. After a little trial and error with the compounds they work better than anything out there - period. They also work faster and clean up a lot easier. Autoglym is definitely underated and underappreciated.

Interestingly, Autoglym do make a clay bar but I have only seen it for sale in Asia

I think you are being very modest :up

I expect the percieved market for claybars in the UK is very low, so its probably not even marketable here. Since Autoglym seems to have only a very modest presence in the US I guess the same applies.

Lowe, sorry but it's Danish...

Hey Alfisti!

Next time you should compose the pictures better! They would be beautiful! Now, they are good as they have sharp focus, enough resolution but you cut the cars' ends! Do whole car pics as well, and don't forget to leave a bit of a frame around the composition! If you do half car photos, that's OK, but don't cut the other corners...

So....you liked my work, then?

Yes, definitely!!! Your work is absolute gem!

And as a former Jag owner, I'm truly enthusiastic about the XKs. Wonderful machinery! Slick mirror shine! If you will "prep" your photography just a bit, everything will be :bow :xyxthumbs !!!

Bence, I photographed the car with the intent of getting the best reflective angles that might show up the true state of the finish, ie. swirls, scratches, etc.

I wasn't simply going for 'glamour' shots. That would be too easy...and a bit deceptive, IMO.

Thus, I didn't "prep" my photography in that way.

Okey dokey? :)

Beautiful pic!

Thanks Vertigo. That's my favourite.

I was quite astonished when I brought it up on my computer screen!

It seems the vivid white walls were reflecting off the dark blue gloss (thankyou Autoglym) and turned it a silvery-blue chrome colour. As you can see, the reflection of me and the red jag are still very dark, so it wasn't simply overexposure.

If only my bathroom mirror was as effective! :p

Absolutely beautiful work on an incredible car. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

Alfisti,

What other Jags do they have there, any C, D or E-Type's? I'd love to see images of ANY other Jags you detail for them.

Aside from the soft top 120, the D type (long or short nose) and the converted XK-SS are my favorite Jags of all time, actually they are some of my favorite sports cars of all time! I know they probably do not have a XK-SS but do they have a D-Type?

Please keep the photo's coming, I've opened this thread around 10 times now, just to look at the photo's you posted. I smile every time I look at them! :)

Eliot Ness, thank you, and it's my privilege to share them with you all. :xyxthumbs

RedondoV6, great to find so many Jag fans. He doesn't own a C, D, or E-type (yet) but he still has a few up his sleave, including an XJ220 which I'll be doing soon.

Did you catch this link on my post?

Pictures of the XJ120.

When i do the 220, I'll post some pics, just for you, so keep an I out for them in the next couple of weeks! :D :D
