Don't make a website and make FaceBook as your website.

Not sure I agree with that? I think FB is a waste of time for most detailers. What they end up doing it advertising to other detailers and don't get in front of their target audience. A web-site (if done properly) can do much, much more. But you still need to have as many social media outlets as possible. Including forums.

this is to those who don't do it properly

there are many case studies where visitors clicked out the website because the design/copy seemed shady.. meaning poorly designed

Keep in mind that even when you do start a website, it's not necessarily something that will benefit you overnight. It took quite a while to get my site near the top of Google search results in my area (without paying for AdWords/etc., I might add), but now that it's up there I am getting a lot more calls than I used to. If I had skipped the site until I 'got established' I still would be playing a waiting game for Google to increase my site ranking.

"Why having too many services can hurt you"

There are some aspects of that I can agree with (too many different coating options = confused customers), but even just this week I had a customer call me specifically because she liked that I have a "more comprehensive list of services on my website" (her words) than any other detail shop in the area. There's something to be said for being well rounded.

I am not referring to rankings when creating a website.. im talking about the design/copy.

And i didn't go in great detail cause it was a quick article i wrote... but it's better to wait to

have a steady income of customer and pay someone to optimize your site.

An SEO expert will out rank a lot of detailing sites in google, quick.. but that's a different story.

Oh, and I just googled 'auto detailing lansing mi' and you showed up the top of the 2nd page on

google. I think it's cause of my location but make sure you are actually on top.. it happens a lot

now you're thinking to yourself "wow, my website is really good. My services are EXACTLY

what she wanted. thats great!"

and it is great that this particular customer loved your comprehensive service page... BUT,

now tell me how many people have clicked away after seeing you have sooo much text, prices,

and services from your services page..

Do you have an analytics tool set up to monitor your site? maybe you get 10 people a day on your

services page ready to pay you delicious fat money cause you're a top detailer.. but they are confused

by so many choices and go back to google (people are lazy to read more than a HERE IS YOUR ANSWER VISITOR  :) )

conclusion: yes, 1 customer said they liked your service page.. but how many people have clicked away

after seeing your services page?

It has been mentioned to me more than once; I was just citing a recent example.

I know you don't agree, but in 2014, a business without a website is a business severely restricting its potential.

FYI, Search results are shown differently for different people based on location, visiting a website previously, the google data center that gives you your search results, and random algorithm testing

If you want to see how your site is really ranking, its important to do it from a fresh computer that has never been to the site or sign out of any google accounts and delete cache/cookies on your own pc.

For example, logged into my current pc that visits 3dproducts.com multiple times a day, 3dproducts pages ranks first almost everywhere. If I go to a fresh PC (or do the otther steps mentioned above), that same page may be on page 2 or 3.

So its important to know your true ranking and not the ranking on your computer.

I think it is business critical to have a website. It's like operating without a phone number in my view.

For those customers who don't have a good referral, Google is perhaps the first way they search for a business.

Very thought driving post, so thanks for sharing :)

His point is that when youre starting out, you dont need to focus all of your energy and resources on "looking" professional with a website and tshirts and all that. The most important thing when starting out is getting out there instead of hiding behind a computer screen

Different audiences have different preferences. Most clients I have dealt with appreciate the professionalism (everything from dialogue to attire) brought to this industry. This becomes more important when it is "you" looking to gain new business.

Social media is important for businesses. Can everyone take advantage of the benefits of social media? If it is used properly, yes. Will some be more successful than others? Yes.

When you treat your business as a business - people take notice.

Maybe your post should be about what is needed to make a professional looking website..............
