Why Work for yourself? Why work for anyone else?

Recently I worked for a midwest company operating an install crew out of pa, Installing mirrors throughout the New England states, ohio, deleware, virginia and maryland. We installed mirrors in private dance studios gyms etc.. Everything started out great, but quickly went down hill. My boss just recently moved out to pa, I was his first hire. I was new to the trade of dealing with glass handling cutting installation. The big boss man continuelly made me aware he was the boss man which is extremely imature, considering the fact I gave him my full attention and did my best. He would wake at 9:00-10:00 in the morning so we wouldn't get to the first job till 10:30-11:00. He had a bad habit of texting and driving even in new york traffic, stupid stupid stupid... Ultimatelly I received the ax for his fuss ups because it is easier to replace the little man. I never had a way to contact managment to tell my side of the story. So my point is these things can be avoided if you take the step to work for yourself not others. There is not enough of oversite of companys operating in this country. I'm pushed to work for myself, because I know I would treat anyone working with me alot better then this. Doing somthing you enjoy on a daily basis will reduce stress in your life substantially which will effect every other aspect of your life.

Sorry to hear about that man, happens to the best of us. Unfortunately there are some industries where working for yourself is not an option so putting up with management just becomes another part of life you learn to deal with and get it done but good luck with you new venture man.

I've actually had great luck in graduate school and picking the right adviser. Extremely successful person, very little ego, extremely patient, etc. I'm kind of scared to enter "the real world".

I'll never forget going to school and then eventually going even further for my MS and having the instructors who I respectfully, honestly think were miserable with their careers tell us about "the real world". At the time, I was full time with credit hours, 35-50 hour a week practicums each semester and additional volunteer time here and there as well as working the prep game overnights! full time. They hated the fact someone was already established in a career as well as a way of critical thinking would really keep them honest as they basically wanted 'yes' men and drones to literally just fit into their cookie cutter.

When they threatened with "the real world", I literally just laughed at them knowing they wouldn't even know where to start.

You'll do great Corey. Having great people try to further and enrich your experience DEFINITELY makes you so much better and sharper.
