Why the PC 7424?

Well I’m ready to take the plunge and buy a polisher and most of the people here are using or are recommending the PC 7424.

What makes this one so good? :nixweiss

It's light-years ahead of those 8 inch hardware store/K-Mart/Walmart terry cloth bonnet type polishers. It balances well in your hands. It has some heft to it (not a bunch of plastic), but it's not so heavy as to make polishing your car fatiguing. With the hook & loop back-up pads, you can match the foam pad to the polish or was application.

Basically, most orbital sander/polishers converted to the hook & loop (velcro) backup pads are excellent. The DeWalt Dw433 is every bit as good as the PC - in fact, the DeWalts motor maybe a bit stronger. The PC 7336/7424 and the DeWalt 433 are easier to hold and do a more professional job. You're going to find the Porter Cable at places like Lowes, and it's price (at Lowes) is a bit more competitive than the DeWalt.

Griot's Garage sells the PC, but at a big mark-up, and Mequiar's private-lables it, also at a big mark-up.

IMHO..it is the power..I dont use one, I use a rotary.. but for most people the PC willdo anything, but the worst paint finishes..

you nailed it. The PC won't bog down when you use it on your paint (i.e. slow down to a speed that won't create heat or correct paint defects - heat is what really helps make a polish do its job) like the little waxmaster ones do.

Also what you say about the rotary - I use one as well, but only when I'm compounding after a major paint repair or in situations where even the PC can't handle the problem I have (I usually only use the rotary when I need to use some 3M Heavy Rubbing Compound or Perfect It III Microfinishing Compound. I find the PC is powerful enough and enough safer to handle FI-II, SMR, etc. with no problems) :up
