Why not to let the dealer detailer near your car

On a related note, I just had a friend ask me for a price to detail his car using the same coating I have on my car (Gloss-Coat). We exchanged a few texts and I gave him a ballpark price since I know the condition of the vehicle. He fired back with a counter offer saying he can get a full detail with a hand wax at the dealership for $75. :swirly:

Best thing you can ever do it let him GO for it!

I get up early to detail my cars so I don't cut into family time.

A contractor working on my block stops by with his G Wagon AMG (black) Asks me how much. For kicks I tell him 1200-1400 and he says WHAT?????? I said that car is big and the paint is trashed. He had it done elsewhere and it was a hologramed mess. I posted this picture a very long time ago back in the TID days. Let them get their dose, if they don't see the difference, they will never be your customer and if they do, well you get your price.

When I first got here I nearly fell over when someone quoted me 790 plus tax to wax my 2008 M35X. It was then that I decided to learn all I could. Met Ron at the Poorboys detail weekend, and many hours, couple-a bucks and 5 Da's later Im not terrible anymore ! :)

I feel bad for you, but somehow I know this would never happen to me. I always scope out the places I deal with and would never let a dealer refinish a damaged wheel. I never leave my cars anywhere either -unless it's body work or something and it absolutely can't be avoided.

I dunno. We don't have dealers like this near me. It sucks Infinity did this to your car.

One tip: I always bring my cars in anywhere I have to bring them into meticulously clean. It's almost like they know "don't touch this car, because the owner is a picky A-hole".

That was his loaner. They didn't touch his car.

Funny you mention that. I had my neighbors friend call me the other day after I handed him a business card a couple weeks ago for his black Dodge Ram Mega cab. Said he never has had the exterior done nice. I quoted him 350ish to do the exterior and asked when he would like to drop off. His response was - " I need to check with my wife to see if I can get a ride back." I told him I can drop him back off if he would like. He said he would be in touch with me. hasn't called back since. Guess it was too much. Not my problem bud! LOL

My dealer sends the wheel to my vendor of choice for the rim. Plus I don't have to take the wheel on or off or drop off and pick up and they get a better price than I do. Pay 125 wheel. Instead of 150 bucks. Pus I get a loaner car. All I do it perform the oil service at that time.

IMO that's a good thing to do for a whole lotta reasons.

I've even explained to the techs how I don't disrespect them by asking them to work on a dirty vehicle and I expect them to reciprocate.
