Why is it that....?

I'm new here so I'm just wondering...why is it that there are so many people viewing these forums, yet there's such little activity in posting? There's only about 85 members online now w/ almost 500 guests! That's crazy. Does everyone just like to read all the goods and nothing else? Just wondering. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I won't sign in until I have a good hour or so to read all the posts and respond to a few. If I log in and out, then I lose the easy link for new posts and would have to click through all the different headings to find new stuff.

Some folks might be clicking in to check a post they made to see if a reply is available.

Lurkers. I know tons of people that read forums but never log on or even bother to sign up. Some people are just looking for information and don't participate much is all.

I think compared to other online forums, this site has a lot more lurkers. Some forums you can jump right on and start posting, while others take a bit of time to learn the basics. I lurked on this site for months before posting for the 1st time.

For me, in the beginning this site was confusing as hell with all the product acronyms people love to use on here. The secret decoder was never of much help IMO.

No, no, no! The OP is talking about the block on the home page which shows who's on, and it's been screwed up for a couple of vBulletin releases now. DavidB said it was a problem with the software that he couldn't fix. It's backwards, that's 85 guests and 500 members, to use the OP's example.

EDIT: Which is wrong, too--right now the home page says 115 members and 473 guests, but if you click on the "online users" link, it shows 115 members and zero guests. I must have been thinking about something before the last upgrade was backwards about the online status, this looks like it's showing all the guests that have been here in the last reporting period, whatever that is (day, week, etc.).

Well, I'm not a pro and just a fledling OCD victim, so I don't have many valuable insights to offer to everyone here. So, I end up "reading" a lot and posting every once in a while.

Hmmm...good point.

I won't lie, I don't have a lot of knowledge of most of the products or terms. used on this site but I am eager to learn.

I am a pro detailer for 15 plus years and I love reading and learning new stuff on this site. This is the most helpful site there is on the internet. There are a lot of pros on this site. I have found some awesome detail products here. It has made me enjoy detailing again. Autopia is the best!

For all you beginners, you have found the best site to learn and meet some great people. I am no internet geek, but this site is great.

I think its hard for us novice memebers to post when we have very little knowledge. I do a lot of reading more than posting (this is my second SN, i forgot my original one). And its not the quantity of post that matters, but rather the quality of the post.
