Why Is Armor All The Devil??

I don't use it, it's too shiney for me. But what, if anything is wrong with it? Some guy at work wanted to know why I say to use 303 instead and he likes the shine of Armor All. Does it truly damage stuff? I've heard it can somehow cause the dash to crack? Any "proof"?

Inquiring minds...................

If my memory serves correct, you should be able to find what you are looking for via a search on Armor All. ;)

Although I no longer use it, I did do so for many years, including lightly on the dash where it lasted a loooong time. But it was too shiny for me and it did intensify the appearance of dust. Never had a problem with interior cracking or discoloration. (It did discolor tires, though.)

Cheers!

There are a ton of informative threads on the subject, but I would suggest if you want a scientific opinion email experts (chemists, polymer engineers, and so on) on the subject. They will give you a opinion that is unbiased towards one product or another, and help confirm or deny what you may be told.

I've never had any problems with Armor All. No cracking of vinyl, no brown tires, nothing. A little shiny for my tastes, but I have a customer who insists I use it on his interior and tires and since he is a very good customer, no problem. He likes the extra shine and I've been using it on his cars (and his partners and CFO's cars) for more than 8 years.

I normally use Meguiars #40 though. More of a matte shine.

I bought a bottle of armor all about 7 years ago and it was milky colored!!! And very shiny and greasy may i add. I dont think those statements by ron k and puterbum are completely accurate.

I don't know if puterbum has any major biases, but Ron sure does. His company does sell a large line of car care products (mostly for the professional) and he usually doesn't have a whole lot good to say about anything his company doesn't sell. He does know a lot about detailing though.

Wait, I'm getting confused now. Is regular original Armor-All a PDMS or not? What's Ron saying in his 2nd quote?

Or are we mixing up AA Original regular protectant with AA Ultra/Low Shine protectant or whatever?

My head hurts :(

I used to use Armor All years ago on my dash and tires. I never had any problems with dash cracking but it did turn my tires brown over time. I ha ve since become wiser thanks to Autopia:D
