Why doesn't no one care...........

What I dont understand is why ppl want to spend all their money on a car, yet, take little if no care of it by themself. They think paying for everything is the way to go. How wasteful, those kind of ppl make me mad. Leasing is stupid as it is anyway, Id rather own a car anyday.

I was on the ferry last week for the holiday. Needless to say some schmo in a mini van is told to park next to me. So I tell my fiance hold on a minute lets wait til they get out. Well there is plenty of room between the 2 vehicles, and even more on the oppsite side to which there are no other cars. The guys wife gets out of the van and comes to the side between mine and there vehicle, and takes the kids out there, but proceeds to hit the truck about 4 times with the pocketbook. So I roll down the window and politely say "Do you mind being careful with your pocket book you keep dragging it down the side of my vehicle" OK so you would think this would be a hint that I am anal with my car. Well the husband gets out and proceeds to hit the side of the truck not 1 time but 3 times getting out. Plenty of room just no regard. At this point my fiance puts her head down because she knows whats next. I get out and rip the guy a new one verbally(No cursing because there were kids present) but I know I had to make him feel like a real @ss in front of everyone and his kids. His wife proceeds to tell me that I am inconsiderate, I just looked at her and told her if they had been considerate with my vehicle than we would not be in this situation. She was speechless and I even got a couple claps. On the way out she did make sure she loaded the kids on the opposite side where it was clear and her husband made sure he opened the door nice. God forbid I found a ding there would have been hell to pay. To me, I can care less about how others treat there vehicles and can care less if they think I am crazy for being so anal. I have this argument with my fiance all the time because she says the same as the rest "Its just a car" I always say the same thing back. "Why buy a nice car if your gonna treat it like garbage and have it look like junk, buy a beater than!" Anyway, what gets me mad about those people is when there disregard for there vehicle than effects yours because they just stuff there door into yours or bump it parking. OK end of rant, this post just got me re-fired up from last week.

Need I say more?

That last interior came out a lot better than I though it would:

And next time I saw it, the interior was even worse than the first time I cleaned it. The guy said since his g/f isn't going to take care of it, he isn't going to pay me $120 to clean the interior again. She can just sit in her own filth.

I agree with everything said here apart from comments about leased cars - I may be the exception here as my car's a lease vehicle/company car so I don't own it. I do take pride in its appearance and get a real buzz out of making it look as good as I can.

GF's very worried about my plans to actually buy a second car "you're bad enough with a car which isn't yours" sorta thing but part of this stems from the difficulty in keeping a daily use car looking perfect and my frustration in picking up dings & scratches from inconsiderate ***holes who don't care about their cars.

Nice job on that interior Scottwax!:xyxthumbs

That picture Scottwax put up is the poster of exactly what I'm talking about. Some people do not care about there vehicles.....severly, then expect detailer's to clean it up, and then go back and do the same thing all over again. It's just like Picasso painting a masterpiece and someone buys it and throw it in the attic to collect dust!

Indeed, i hate detailing cars for my family, because ill work for 8 hours on them, then they wont wash it for 3 months while im at school.

SO SO true. I detail my dad's car (black) and then he goes and runs it through a mud/water build up and gets it on the side of the car. It was soo avoidable. I got so mad i actually said something. He said he didnt see it, but i dunno. My mom refuses to keep her car in good shape by doing little things, not parking under trees, etc - so that gets on my case. while im in schol my car sits, fully detailed in the garage w/ the car cover on =)

It’s all a matter of priorities among people in general. They have more important things to do than care about a depreciating asset that they either own or rent (lease).

I love my wife, but she’s not one to keep her car as clean as I’d like. When I get in it, I find wrappers and junk on the inside. I swear she aims for mud puddles. But, she does care a bit how her car looks. She will help me clean it and promise to take better care of it. Her car never gets as bad as the ones in Scottwax’s post, so I should feel blessed.

Besides, she will take a QD to her MG before taking it out for a ride. She also borrowed my car once and told me that it ‘glowed’ when she looked back at it in the parking lot.

My wife recently got a dark green Honda CRV, the third one in our fleet of 5 cars at home. It was almost perfect and I told her I would detail it. I washed and waxed my red CRV, then left to go get a bottle of Dawn to wash her's and remove the dealers crapwax before buffing it and using Pinnacle Souveran on it. By the time I got back, she had proudly washed her CRV, using her liquid dish soap and the cheapo cotton towels (about $10 for 20 or so) that I use for wheels and general cleanup around the garage. When I say the scratches and swirls I just smiled and went inside to prevent going off about the amount of work she had created for me. Even though shes' watched me detail cars for years, she still doesn't really get it or see that much difference. Just one of the hazards of being a Autopian I guess. I once spent 2 days detailing my elderly neighbor's Lincoln for her because she had been ill and she spent the next two weeks showing off her car to everone that would listen, telling them what an expert I was. She then saved me from more work the next time it got dirty by taking it to the "brush" was as the gas station. I could see the scratches in the dark red metallic from across the street. Barely avoided tears on that one.

Ever since I have been on this board, I have literally cringed at how some people take care of their cars. I admit, I tend to be a little more anal than most, but I am one who tends to take pride in what I own.

Case in point, when lawrencea and Blue-Sun saw my '02 Maxima, it actually had around 50,000+ miles on it. They remarked that the car still looked pristine despite the fact I drove it every day. I even got comments from the dealerships that serviced my car telling me that I do a better job than most in that regard.

Hearing comments like that makes the work I did on the '02 worth it. But rest assured, I know I am going to be "worse" when I get the '03. :D

Those '03's are sweet!!! I detailed a black '02 and almost had a heart attack!!:shocked

I was at a stop sign in the neighborhood a few months ago and this guy was mowing the lawn and his wife was sweeping the driveway with one of those kitchen brooms. Well I see her stop sweeping and look at her car in the driveway and then proceed to sweep her car with the broom. I almost rolled down my window to tell her to stop but thought why bother she would probably think I was the one that was nuts.

All i can say is... as long as the guy next to your car doesn't screw YOUR car up, let him be... the fact that he neglects the car simply means that he sees an automobile as a mode of transportation or toy (if they only care for audio, speed, etc)... it's the same feeling car audiophiles get when they see a nice car with stock audio or a engine tuner seeing a stock V8 muscle car... If it's not your cup of tea, you probably won't give a crap about that aspect of your car...

Personally I love detailing and car audio, but I don't give a hoot about modifying a car to go faster, adding aftermarket wheels, aero kits, etc.... I'm sure others will see this as "weird" or say "where have you been??" But hey, that's my car and what's it with you?

If a customer comes in and wants their car to be cleaned, even if the car has been neglected for years, I just explain it to them HOW it happened, if they choose to let it reach this stage, it's fine with me, we'll just clean it again, that's my job... if he takes care of it, great...

Kinda like a doctor... Do you really expect a guy to take care of his health the way the doctor tells him to after a visit to the doctor's office?

Hi there... new to forum, so hello!

Couldn't believe my eyes when I read about the shoveling of snow from a car! That should carry a prison sentence!

I'm off to give my car a stroke with a nice MF and tell it how lucky it is!

True. The only problem is: those people who don't care about their vehicle's come to us detailer's wanting to fix the problem they messed up out of carelessness, and then sometimes go back and do the same thing all over again!:(

I thought professional detailers got paid for what they did. I didnt realize some of them did it as a public service. Are you set up as a not for profit business? ;)

Just being funny, and I agree with you, but that is how you sounded :D

Its sad the way the majority of people treat their vehicles. I was always taught to respect and care for everything that I have, be it my home, my car, a shirt, whatever.

I'm not a pro by any means, I do a car here and there for money when people ask, I do my parents cars for them. You just gotta remember, its THEIR property, and if they want to keep screwing it up and paying you to fix it, then continue happily taking their money. As a car guy it makes me hurt seeing a quality automobile mistreated, as someone who likes money it hurts me to see people mistreating a possession that they paid a lot of money for, but as a detailer? Hell let em scratch it up and pay me to fix it every 3 months.

Leasing is somewhat to blame, but leasing cars isn't stupid. For a lot of people leasing holds a lot of benefits over buying, such as tax breaks for businesspeople etc. What I dont understand about the mentality of people who lease really expensive luxury cars (that can cost more than $1000 a month to lease) is they say "its just a rental". Well yeah, its a rental but you're paying $1000 a month to drive it for three years, do you want to pay $1000 a month to drive an amazing car, or one thats all nasty and beat up. THAT I dont understand.
