Why does my hood look like it has thousands of rock chips?

Sometimes your bare fingers can't feel everything. Try putting a plastic sandwich bag over your fingers and feel the surface. The plastic bag will enhance bumps or dents in the surface.

Dude, those are tiny chips in the paint that unfortunately, have gauged out enough clearcoat and paint to show the primer or undercoat. Dark, especially black cars have this unsightly hood damage when driven for many highway miles. (I know, I have a black 328is)

If only a few, you can re-touch with dealer re-touching paint. If there are many, like I think you have, you're looking at a re-paint of the hood.

Best idea that I'm doing for my new 330ci? buying and installing a hood "bra" that puts a leather cover over the high impact area of the hood for highway trips. It's a pain I know but better than dealing with the sandblasting that comes from high speed, hundreds of miles abuse the hood takes on the highway.

Best of luck.

Forgot to add: That the white specks all of a sudden showed up when you filled them with wax and polish. The compounds filled the tiny holes/crevaces and with a day or two, turned white like normal wax does when left on too long.

My 2 cents worth...

Sorry man, BUT, I don't think that's the case. I know that, at least on my vehicle, the primer/undercoat is a dark color....all these are are imperfections in the clear coat. Like I said, I tried taking pictures last night, but....I'm having a hard time show detail on m white car.

Also, this car is barely driven. It's a 2001 and has 23,000 miles on it. Last winter it was driven at all, it was garaged....and actually I've only driven it twice this month! I'm too stinkin busy, haha....I want to get everything done on it before driving it....it's taken me forever to do the complete detail.
