Why does Honda/Acura use a stick of butter for paint ???

I've got a NightHawk Black Pearl 2006 Accord and I don't do a lot of highway driving so I am spared that abuse. However, a month after I bought the car, I was driving on the highway and got a huuuuge rock chip on the hood. There's even a little dent too. :(

I have a couple of Hondas, and have not really noticed that the paint is any softer than any other car that I have detailed. I would assume that it would be easier to correct the soft paint.

My Accord is 2 years old, and I have barely had to do any correction to the paint.

I have noticed that the paint on the Hondas made in Japan is much better than the ones made in America. (Orange peel, ect.)

Have you installed this personally? doesnt seem that difficult as long as are somewhat handy and have a TON OF PATIENCE. any tips anyone, I will be doing this on my 06 tsx before my front end looks like swiss cheese.

It seems like everyone complains about Honda's thin and soft paints! Count me in. My Accord's front end really isn't too bad but it's Naples Gold Metallic, which hides just about everything from dirt to rock chips... and you thought silver did! lol :nixweiss

Anyway. My parents just purchased an '07 Accord in Graphite Pearl (it's a gorgeous color!) and had a clear bra installed about a week after delivery. In that time frame, there were two large chips I had to touch up and quite a few mini "dings" from rocks hitting the surface.

Clear bras are FTW! Get one installed before you leave the dealer or have an appointment so you can drive directly from the dealer to the installer. If you want, you can do it yourself. Check out xpel.com, order the film in bulk with a bit extra to practice. It can be nicely done if you have patience and follow the instructions.

It's not just Honda/Acura with this problem, other manufactures are having the same issues as they progress towards more "green" paints. Hopefully someone introduces durable water based paints. :nervous2:

My paint falls into the hard category and my front bumper is still trashed from stone chips. It looks awful. I'm thinking that paint is paint, not wood or steel, and that any paint would be damaged from a stone being thrown in the direction of your car at 35MPH while you are traveling at 65MPH in the opposite direction. 35MPH + 65MPH=100 MPH, or definite stone chip.

Interesting post. It has made me think about what the repair would be should a clear bra be damaged from the PITA 100MPH stone.

Hafta say the Infinit paint (built in Japan) is so much tougher than my Honda Ridgeline paint. In fact, its probably the best factory paint of any car I've owned. Or maybe its just that beautiful laser red color....

Wow Gen7 owners all over the place. I really wish I had a clear bra! My front end is an eye sore because it is Satin Silver Metallic and the rock chips are all black
