Why do you think you love detailing so much?

Nothing lets me forget about all the BS in the world more than a few hours in the garage. I also like the sense of accomplishment I get at the end. :woohoo:

Haha - that is true. In my line of work I sit at a desk most of the day programming and working on web sites. Anything to get me away from the desk that I enjoy I'll do. It gives me peace and allows me to sort-of meditate.
And detailing is just so gratifying! I love to step back with a beer and look at the clean shiny cars and be proud of the finished product. I just wish the clean look lasted longer in our Ontario weather.

I love the satisfaction of handing the keys back to the owner and just the awe on their face and their gratitude for my work. Also the final product is always rewarding, knowing you made it better.
It's nice to find other people with similar mind-set about detailing. Well, detailing to me is...
* Relaxing - like any hobby, it allows me to focus my attention on the task at hand. It allows me to filter out all my daily stresses, especially work.
* Satisfaction - I get instant gratification from the results. I used to garden and the reward would take weeks to develop. I also like helping friends and family with their vehicles. Just seeing their reaction when it's all done.
* Saved my eyes - it got me away from my computer gaming. I used to game about 4-6 hours on week nights and 8-12 hours on weekends. This was going on for about 2-3 years. I'm so lucky my wife did not divorce me!
* Exercise - my neighbors thinks it's a chore, but I see it as a form of exercise. I try to keep detailing with as little breaks as possible. Feel that burn! It's funny that I find using a Makita rotary to be an excellent core workout. Some personal trainers say to turn chores into exercise. So that's what I did.
* Fellowship - it's always nice to network with other enthusiasts. You not only learn new tips and tricks in detailing, but just about everything else too.
* $$$$ - making a few bucks doesn't hurt. Helps to feed the addiction and nice dinners for the family.

it's a good use of my spare time. beats hanging around in strange places.
(oh, and, uh... you know how they say plants grow better when you talk to them? and babies in womb can recognize mum and dad's voice? and some people can really communicate with animals? maybe, subconsciously, it is our way of "getting closer" to our rides. lmao. sorry, just being silly

It instills discipline as it conditions the mind to do something in spite of the effort involved.
It gives a sense of accomplishment as great results means great effort.
It challenges as one will always want to top himself or herself after every detail.
It makes the car stand out no matter how plain it really is.

A clean car gives a good impression in my eyes. Even more so if you do this for a bit of cash.
I like seeing black perfectly clean though, and that is OCD so add that too.
Probably the best thing though is seeing people's reactions after. It's great seeing the happiness. We have all have to spend time in our cars sometime so I think the last part is a big thing for some people.

This is my second year of business and I still get all excited the night before a detail!

Definite escape from the day to day bull$hit
How happy it makes the customers
$$$$ of course!
It still kinda takes me back to when I was a kid and used to help my dad wash and wax his cars.
