Why do people think we are nuts?

Definitely get that beater truck, it may just be the best money you ever spent!
While it is a good idea, it didn't work out for me. I couldn't leave the beater alone and had to start fixing everything up on it. A little body work, some new paint, new seats and floor mat and it was good to go. Of course it was no longer a beater so I ended up trading it for a fishing boat and motor.
Hey, I even have to wash a loaner from the dealer before I drive it. :( :crazy :(:crazy :(:crazy

Now that IS sick!!!

Funny as hell. But sick

Well, of course I was teasing everyone when I sent out the invite by email. But the thing is, there are a few at work that have had me detail their cars, others have me help them, and several have asked me what they need to order to maintain their car better (of course I always point them to PAC). My mother was quite happy when I detailed her car. Someone at work asked me my opinion on her vette and what I thought about it's condition - waterspots etched so badly the clearcoat was flaking away around the edges of the spots!! So without them saying it, they have respect for what I do to keep mine in good condition.

And I look at it this way too... when one spends as much as one does on vehicles these days, to not take good care of it is what is really nuts in my opinion.

Hmm, I would start by saying,,,,,I had the opportunity to engage in a fun, stress releiving and exciting activity this weekend with people who share a common interest with me, laughing, learning and just simply enjoying the sparkling day that saturday brought us.

So,,What did you do ?

i hear ya,

i had a beater truck a couple of years ago and a bad starter turned into a complete overhaul of seals and gaskets throughout the engine and new parts all over the place. turned out nice, though, it was a 1976 ford f150 with 48000 original miles on it.

WELL SAID! :bow :bow

That's one of the best quotes I've read all year! :bigups

I am nuts. Big deal. Family knows it. It's not like I try and hide it. :lmfao

"Your gonna wash the paint off that thing"

"Your gonna polish the paint off that thing"

"Blah Blah Blah Blah"

:lmfao

I got a rental neon (black) when my car was in the shop, I finally couldn't stand it anymore and broke out the buffer & some SMR. The rental people just gave me 'the look' when they picked the car back up.

Did they give you a discount ? Did they at least say "THANK YOU" ? How many times do you think people bring back cars cleaner than when they got them.? Not to many times. I think that makes us a better class of people.

Well put. That was actually my exact impression of the day.

As far as people commenting oon my car, I think I posted about the guy in my building that I overheard talking about my car. He basically said to his coworker "Did you ever see that silver Accord that parks on the 1st floor? That friggin thing always looks awesome"

That made me feel good. The person I was with asked me why I didnt tell him that it was my car. I figured it was enough that he noticed why say anything?

I clean because I need to get rid of all the bad products I have now! :D If you have just joined on DC, leave now or else you will submit to peer pressure. Thats the only way to stop the product addiction. :lol

Heh.

I was saying on another thread that I was 'detailing' my engine compartment before 'detailing' was even a term that people used. This was in the mid-fifites.

I actually had an 'old timer' threaten to beat me up if I didn't stop washing my Ford flathead. "Don't you young bast***s know anything?! Car engines are supposed to be dirty".

Being called "Nuts" could have been a step up for me back in those 'good old days' - LOL

Didn't stop me tho

Anyone who is passionate about a hobby is viewed as a "nut" by those who don't share the same interest. It just so happens that car detailing can be a highly visible hobby since it often takes place outdoors in full view of everyone passing by. People who indulge in hobbies indoors, or otherwise away from prying eyes, are less likely to be subjected to so much public heckling.

Hey people! Easy on the golfers!!!!!!

I'm one of the fortunate few who have time to pamper both my car and golf swing!!

And yes, I get heckled for both.

I don't know why anyone in my neighborhood would think I was nuts. Doesn't everyone wash their cars at 8:00 at night in the dark in 40 degree weather?
