Why do I keep buying all these different LSPs???

So with all the junkies in here... how many LSPs do you have in your arsenal, that you haven't tried yet?

I think I have 3 or 4.

I find myself in a similar position, though with less reason, given that I only have my personal vehicles to detail. I have decided on UPGP for my wife's CRV--it's just so darn easy--but I keep trying different protectants on my S2000. Heck if I know what I'm looking for. All I know is that every day I have to resist adding to my wax collection.

I currently own: Souveran, Fuzion, Best of Show, 50/50, P21S 100%, Harly Wax, 476s, 845, Lusso Oro, M16, Midnight Sun, Wet Diamond, UPGP, Reflections, NXT. So why in the world am I tempted to add Victoria Concours Red, especially when I haven't tried yet all the ones I do own?

Hi, my name is Al Kimel, and I'm a wax addict ...

Don't feel too bad. I still use my left over Zymol Platinum Wax and Creme Wax on some formica countertops!!! Platinum was a Beverly Hills Motoring product from the nineties and I am still using it up. I use it on the laminated top on my desk, too. Smells goooood.

I think we all have this "problem". Luckily I can try to justify my LSP collection by saying that it is for my detailing business; though it comes in handy, that is not why. I like different LSP's for different situations/colors/cars.

1 tub Souveran, 13 tubs M16, 1 tub Meg's Gold Class, 1 tub Turtle Wax (used once), 1 bottle NXT 2.0, Meg's A12 Cleaner Wax (big bottle and a couple sample size), 1 bottle MPPP and 1 tub Natty's Red.

Yes, I need that much M16. :D

I have: Souveran, sample size of Supernatural, sample size of UPGP, sample of Zymol Creame, EX-P, Klasse AIO and SG, Groits best of show, SCG Barrier Reef, Omega 1grand, Image10 finish cream, CG WMF.

and I only have 3 cars. I like the UPGP, Zymol Creame, Image10 finish cream and the WMF. I'm going to need to reorder most of them soon, which is stopping me from ordering new stuff.

I like starting with UPGP and then topping it with either zymol creame or the Image10 stuff.

Wow you guys are novices:

Dodo Supernatural

UPGP

Nattys Blue

Megs NXT 2.0 Liquid

Megs NXT 2.0 Paste

Pinnacle XMT180

Poorboys EX-P

Meguiars #16

Meguiars Gold Class Liquid

Collinite 845

Zaino Z2

Victory Sealant

Victory Carnauba Wax

Megs 151 (pushing it)

AquaWax (pushing it)

Pinnacle XMT360 (pushing it)

Victory Spray wax

Not one of them has helped the addiction.

Maybe some Vintage or JW will help?

What does "pushing it" mean?

I tried Vintage. I loved the way the car looked, though I didn't like the sweating I experienced for days afterwards. But more importantly, it didn't help my addiction. I can't afford Vintage, but I remain tempted by other protectants, viz., Victoria Red and Collinite 915. I guess I just want to have them in my collection. Next thing I know I'll be talking to all the tubs.

Me: "Hi, Souveran. Did you have a good night last night."

Souveran: "It was okay, but 476s kept boasting how more durable he is than anyone else on the shelf, except maybe his younger brother 915."

476s: "He's just jealous. One little rainstorm and he's all washed away."

Souveran: "Well, maybe so; but I sure look a heck of a lot better on a car than you do."

476s: "Do not!"

Souveran: "Do, too."

Best of Show: "It's a silly argument. Everyone knows that I give the wettest shine, and my durability is darn good, too. That's why everyone is willing to pay top dollar for me."

Harly Wax: "What a snob!"

And so the wax conversations go on every day ...

So does the debate go on?

Very vague statement here.

Wax seems to protect better, self clean and provide a better shimmer, but doesn't last as long and might attract dust.

Where as a sealant could be regarded as the opposite and shine more.

Then there might be hybrids that could be the best of both.

Wow some of you have a lot of LSPs!

I have...

DP Max Wax (great bang for buck)

Klasse AIO/SG

Adam's Machine Wax (sealant)

2-Adam's Americana Paste Wax

The only LSP I want to try out is the Wolfgang high gloss sealant that everyone talks about.

I have problems with buying different washing solutions.

I'm @ 8 now.

You need a few caranubas, a few sealants, and a bunch of compounds and polishes. Any car will look spectacular.

yes, I seem to be helping my LSP addiction by now adding compounds and polishes instead :)

Now what I really need is a car with good thick paint that can put up with some real correction :wall

DJ, I think that is true for someone that does this for a living, but the hobbyist is the exact opposite. Most of us get a a car polished to a level we are happy with and then we play with LSPs. I can't play around with polishes every weekend as I usually have an hour or so to wash and wax. I also am very familiar with the paint on my cars, and I can see a difference between waxes. I'd imagine that you rarely get to swap around the LSP on a given car, and if you do, do you really remember what it looked like the last time?

Good point. Adding a different top coat can generally be pretty quick and easy. Where as including polishes on a regular basis can get very time consuming. And if the addiction includes polishing every time then it won't be long before there isn't much paint left.

A sure sign of being an addict is thinking the car looks good and then wondering how much better it would look with a coat of this product on it :)

With not the greatest paint jobs in the world I'm always looking for the product that will fill well to cover up the defects I can't remove without needing a repaint. 3 coats of UPGP seems to build a pretty good foundation to work from though.

Throw in a hood that looks like it was repainted by the dealer and I get the fun of 1 car and 2 different paints, great color match, but the sections behave differently to the same polish or LSP.

Have more than like 2 waxes and 2 sealants is pointless IMO... I have a whole big cabinet full of them... but only use 2. LOL So I'm in the same boat, but I stopped buying new stuff long ago... once I added up how much I spent in detailing stuff... LOL

Why switch your LSP's around? Find what works for you and stick to it. There are very little differences in LSP apperances. Caranubas will darken, and sealants will be more reflective. That's why even the weekend warrior or hobbyist only needs a few of each to play with depending on what they are looking for.

I do this, I find what the owner is looking for, then pick based on what I like using, then pick on whats easiest to use.

That would be like me having 10 black cars all the same. Putting 10 different waxes on them, then switching the order and the next day no one would be able to tell which car had which wax application.

That's just it, nothing works for me. I want something that looks like a carnauba, is super slick and stays that way for over a month. So I end up playing around with stuff, some of it looks great (PS), some stays slick for a while (UPGP/Poliseal) and stuff that stays around for a while (Collinite). I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying we have different perspectives.

How do you not like blackfire then? It darkens the paint but still has the sealant reflective look with good durability. Try some EZ Creme Glaze on speed 6 with the PC and white or black pad after your polishing, then apply Blackfire. If you dont absolutely love the surface and slickness, then I'm retiring :)
