Why do I keep buying all these different LSPs???

I think I have convinced myself that LSP makes almost no difference in the appearance of my cars, but for some reason I keep buying more! A quick count in my garage showed seventeen different LSPs. What's worse is I can only remember actually using up and reordering two of these (AJ and AJT), while all the others are somewhere between 30-99% full. I don't know what I keep expecting when I buy a new one, but I can't stop. I wish I could just settle on one and leave well enough alone, but that doesn't seem possible. Anyone else with this same problem?

I probably have 30+ Trying out new ones is fun. I wish we'd do more trading on this forum, so much wasted product, and the newer sealants seem less stable, so buying 16oz containers is a total waste.

did you try HD poxy? of so how was that?

trading would be good, I wish more places would sell small 'sample' sizes, not really because I want to try it before I buy it but as you mentioned having 16 oz of it sitting around is such a waste. For the price of some of them it would be nice to get 6 or 7 samples that could do 2 or 3 coats.

You just need to make a rule for yourself to have a max of 5-10 LSPs or so. Stop buying new ones until you pare down your current collection to (8).

I used to buy pretty much everything new to market (was up to 25+) but have since sold or traded off most of mine and probably have somewhere between 8-10 left and I feel substantially better.

If you find yourself staring at Click and Brag pictures thinking "I need that LSP"...your need to instead think to yourself, "I need that amount of prep work...my LSPs will be fine" :)

I was like that with polish awhile back. Never got into it with LSP's I always figured wax was wax and if I glossed the paint correctly that the LSP wasn't going to matter much if at all. But man did I have a shelf full of polishes trying to get that paint the way I wanted it.

I think it is a combination of addiction and searching for that product which will give you that "perfect" finish.

yep, is that LSP that someone just mentioned the one that will take the finish over the top? Is it the one with the sharp, deep, wet look all in one? Or what if I top my current setup with that one? Sometimes for me it's the 'I've been using this one for awhile, I think I'd like to try an LSP that has a different look. Or maybe this one will be the perfect one for my color and paint"

It may be mostly in the prep work but when you are obsessed with the finished product, that LSP that takes it 3% more is so worth it :)

Nothing like having your wife come home from work and tell you that one of her co-workers walked up to her car and said "now, there's no way that's turtle wax on your car"

Not sure how many I've tried over the years, easily 50+, mostly sealants looking for longevity.

There are quite a few factors involved in choosing a winning LSP for me.

For me I would be able to apply it to the whole vehicle with easy removal, no effort dirt release, last for many months, wax like jetting with a sealant shimmer. Among some others that I am forgetting.

Narrows it down to only a few, but then one could also include a maintenance topper LSP and things become a lot more complex.

Most quality LSP's can achieve about 90% of what I am looking for.

But still looking for the holy grail in my eyes.

Good idea, but how do I do that? I have a liter of Klasse--that's an heirloom!

You left us hanging ;)

So after all of your testing, what are your top 5 sealants?

Best method I've found is always wait 5+ days between reading about an LSP and ordering it. Admittedly I've added the jetseal/petes53 combo and auto balm and a few others to the shopping cart multiple times without checking out. We need a 12 step program.

Right now it is easier to resist buying new ones as the ones I actually use and like are starting to run low so it comes down to if I buy ones I know are good or ones that may or may not be that good.

Now spend your money on finishing polishes!!!

last night I was trying CG MWF on my wifes car, when I was finishing it up I was thinking that it sure would be nice if the paint was in better shape overall. I'm always nervous taking too much paint off of that car because it isn't the best paint job and even shows signs that the hood was repainted by the dealer before sale; so I'm not sure how much paint is there.

I decided to take a chance and grabbed the 205 and went over a small section, wiped it off and wasn't impressed so I got really brave and leaned into the DA pretty hard for 2 passes, then just a little pressure for 2 and finally just barely contacted the surface for 2. Wiped it dry and there it was, the long elusive super smooth scratch free shine!

I'm definitely in the same boat. However, I am glad to see that there are several in this thread who have the sickness even more than I do!

No top five really, as so many seem the same after they are applied. Nice shine that diminishes after a few washes, protection and self cleaning that never lives up to expectations and longevity that is no where as long as promised.

Right now 476 is very nice in most regards, application is a little harder than I like but not usually a problem. 476 with DWG totally amazed me on white.

DG 105 is also nice but self cleaning sc falls off pretty quick. Topper of AW helps on personal car but not for customer cars.

Z2 lacks in protection and sc. Topper of Z8 helps.

Another combo that I have been using lately, if you call it that because it is so fast is PS with a OS topper.

Customer car- wash then PS as an AIO then detail the rest of the car and finish with an OS topper, that extra five minutes really sets it off.

I commented on a friends car that it looked clean and she said she hasn't washed it since I did it, 3 months. The car was CG E-Z Glaze and a OS topper.

I use a couple others, but they aren't discussed much on here. Like 3M Show Car Paste wax. Very comparable to 476, but doesn't last quite as long.

Waiting for more replies on Wet Diamond, as it sounds nice.

I find myself in a similar position, though with less reason, given that I only have my personal vehicles to detail. I have decided on UPGP for my wife's CRV--it's just so darn easy--but I keep trying different protectants on my S2000. Heck if I know what I'm looking for. All I know is that every day I have to resist adding to my wax collection.

I currently own: Souveran, Fuzion, Best of Show, 50/50, P21S 100%, Harly Wax, 476s, 845, Lusso Oro, M16, Midnight Sun, Wet Diamond, UPGP, Reflections, NXT. So why in the world am I tempted to add Victoria Concours Red, especially when I haven't tried yet all the ones I do own?

Hi, my name is Al Kimel, and I'm a wax addict ...
