Why did I sign up for this beast!!!!!!F350 X-cab Diesel(black) OUCH

Here is a beast that I started today and I have had my fair share of nightmares, but this is not only a big truck, but it has more contamination on it from bad rotors and the metal filings turned into fine little rust particles all over the paint. My chemical cleaner/stripper will not even work on this disaster. A clay bar just gets mangled and molested during the process. Wetsanding is not in the pay plan for me. I am not a quiter though.

Plus this thing has so much tar all over it and my tar remover will not even budge this one. Bad is not even the word for this beast.

Then the scratches that it has all over the place. Why did I even bother.

Then the interior that is HORRID! It has tar all over the place. But that is the least of it's worries.

So my guess is that this guy use to do tar work (lots if it), drives very fast through the woods hitting every branch, backing into trees, drive through his tar jobs, walk all over the new tar and get back in his truck and put it in reverse and go back and do it again:clap:

Here are some pics

Oh ya it's for a car dealership that I know very well.

This is why I do not do wholesale work! I had 2 jobs to do but can not do them till next week do to the holiday vacation week, so I was bored.

1. They all complained at the price, but I was cheap at $300 wholesale. After being there all day today they now understand. They are amazed at how well it is coming out. Plus it was almost 95 today here. Hot one!

2. Got stuck in a tight bay with a lift 2 inches from the truck, so it was very tight.

3. Everyone wanted to know what wax I was buffing with...I really hate that one!

4. I had to watch a guy wax his car and show me how great his wax was and he waxed in the hot 95 degree sun and would not come off..haha..he was also using a mechanic rag with metal filings in it, and left some nice deep marks. :nixweiss I think it was an acura legend and nice looking car too...well was:wall I did do a test spot on the trunk with my 3,02 and hit it with z8. He was speachless, but I then realized he can not even afford his car let alone a polish job.:wall

5. Some customer of theres came over to my bay and grabbed a bunch of my microfibers and used them for oil spill. I argued with him until he gave me money for them. I was nice, but I did get mad and he knew it. I was not in the mood. Thank god it was only 2 of them and not my good ones. Some people just don't think.

6. The phone in the garage kept on ringing every 5 minutes and had to keep stopping until I told them I will have to charge an extra day for loss of time..

7. Have the detailer there ask me a million questions which I did not mind to much:chuckle:

8. Have this guy tell me a story on how his friend has this detail shop and he is the best on the east coast. He also says he has the cheapest prices too. Plus he also said that he has these colored waxes that are the best and they are used on every car that he details.:grinno: It makes the paint look deeper:chuckle: :help: I told him it only works on the cheap crappy cars and when he told me that they do this Ferrari once a month for a deep fill shine, I got in my car and took off for awhile:grinno:

9. Removing the rust scaling and the tar were a nightmare. Nothing was working. The clay bar was falling apart on 1 swipe. The truck felt like 600 grit sandpaper. I then busted out the carburator cleaner and that worked pretty good:D My next step was a lighter:shocked BOOM

10. I got all the body prepped and got it ready for some ZAIO and then the owner comes along with flat black touch up paint with a q-tip all over the place. I put the ZAIO back:D I knew I should have asked that guy for that black clay wax:grinno:

11. I have to go back tomorrrow and do it all over again. This might be my last job for them, unless they bring them to my house.

I did get out most of all those huge scrape marks down the sides. I managed to get 90% of the rust off and all the tar. The owner told me it was good enough and not to spend that much time on the bottom. He is very pleased so far.

What a fun filled day tomorrow will be.

Thomas, it is very bad. The pictures do it no justice of how bad it is. By the way those speckles in the picture is the speckled rust all over. 2000 grit wetsand paper with Carb cleaner as lube to the rescue.:2thumbs:

Oh ya forgot to mention, The rear bumper is rotted, dented, and pushed into the bed.

The front bumper is all rusted too.

The sad part.......It's a 2003!

oh wow man i feel for u!! keep your head up and your ear plugs in and ull make it throught the day!

Damn! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I detailed the same truck a couple weeks ago. It was trashed! I ended up charging 300 bucks.

Cannot wait to see the afters!

Greg

hey Ryan if you ever need a hand let me know man id be happy to help/learn on weekends if you need a hand, ill bring my makita too so we can get it done quick haha

Just a thought...

Thanks guys!!!

I ended up finishing today and it came out pretty good. The owner was very impressed and I am now doing his sons car, salesman car and all there wifes cars. The detailer there wants to learn from me too. Plus I might have another business venture from the 2nd owner there too. Sometimes you have to suffer to get connections and I do it all the time.

Funny part is that some guy called me today for me to look at his trucks and one had cement all over it.. At first he tells me that he wants it back to show room condition and says price is not an issue. So I get there and the cement will come off but it will be a lot of work. The bad part was he said he did not want to pay over $300 and wanted to only spend $200. I told him I would have to pass as I am getting very busy now. All my same job processes fall in threes. I am really missing the vettes now.

The guy did end up paying me for the towels. He gave me more than they cost. He knew I was not happy when I put my buffer down and seen the look on my face. He was nice and payed though and felt bad.

Sorry I do not have any after pics yet cause my girlfriend needed the camera for pictures today of our daughters first summer. The truck came out 85% better or maybe 90%. It needs too much paint work. It was a fun adventure. I have done tons of bad recovery vehicles in the past and that is how I got good. I would rather do mechanical work though.
