Why bother with Glass Cleaners?

Hi everyone,

I am curious as to why everyone uses glass cleaners? Although I have a new bottle of stoners invisiglass i never use it. Why? After each car wash I just dry off the glass with my waffle weave towel and its nice and clean with almost no streaks. So this lends me to ask why bother taking another stop with using a glass cleaner? Are there added benefits that I am not aware of?

I hope your using that glass cleaner in between washes to keep dirt and grime off your windshield, otherwise your wipers are wiping right over sand and filth...

Glass cleaners are made to cut through wax, grime, tar, bugs, sap etc...

Car soap is made to clean surface dirt yet be mild enough to leave wax behind.

Stoners rule man!!! I just tried soem 2 days ago on my coupe! Good stuff. Oh, and I used it to get rid of all of my polish and wax that gets splattered on the glass during detailing.

I never use glass cleaners inside or out.

The beauty of Microfiber towels is that you ONLY USE WATER.

My glass has never been as clean as when I use Microfiber and water only.

I pretty much agree with Bill on this one. Except I do find that by using (Stoner's in my case) that the glass cleaner makes the process a little easier.. with a little less streaking.. but water alone and a MF will do the job.. esp if you keep on top of it.. if you waits months between doing the inside of your windows, then thats a whole other matter..

I've recently discovered that Quik Shine works wondefully on windows. I sprayed them down lightly after washing teh car amd was really impressed with the results. We got a few inches of snow yesterday and the ice that formed on my windshield came off nice and easy.

On the inside, I still like Stoners. Windows are a a major weakness of mine and I find that Stoners and a MF (I use the Viper Glass towel) makes even my windows streak free.

I'm guessing that glass cleaners are also especially helpful on the interior if you have that "haze" that forms in new cars or if you're dealing with a smoker's car. Plain ol' water and MF just doesn't have the umph to handle that.

I never wash my glass with out a quality cleaner. Perticularly where I live, I always end up with dirt, bird droppings, etc on my glass. Its not something I want to use just water and smear/scratch my glass with.

My last windshield had terrible scratches and swirling all over it. Not even buffing with 3M SMR could make it much better.

If your glass stays very clean, I can see water and microfiber working, but otherwise I want something else to help lift and lubricate.

I keep stoners and some microfibers in my car at all time.

Although I have Invisible Glass and Einmann Fabrik Clear Vision, I use them sparingly. Only when the windows get dirty between washings.

I use the suede MF towels (from JT Intl.) on the glass. Other than a bit of water, nothing else is needed! No more paper towels!

Although I agree, I always keep MF towels, glass cleaner and QD spray in the car at all times for those bird bombs and bug attacks!

:)

I'm sure others here have more/better pix, but -- for one example, in my gallery, two of the pix ("side view" and "Z on the Jag") were done after claying the windows. I hope you can see how crystal-clear and reflective that makes them.
