Why a clay bar

Isn't that sort of wasting the product?

There really isn't any product to waste. Its not like you are pouring it out of a bottle. If it is going to benefit the area you are using it then its not really wasting anyway. If it improves visibility then it is product well spent. :xyxthumbs

Well I originally thought that Lynn used the entire clay bar, just in smaller pieces, on the car and then pitched all the pieces out. That would basically mean you use the clay only once.

RhinoNC, none that I know of. But, thank goodness, DavidB sells claybars alone in the Autopia store. I just had my first experience with the Autopia clay this weekend, and WOWIE-ZOWIE! both the clay and the lube are superlative!

Lynn - retailers won't carry clay alone due to the shrinkage/theft problem, and possible damage from an improper lubricant.

We hashed through this very subject 2-3 weeks ago.

You can find it at an automotive paint supply store, though.

Oops! You're right. Now I remember your response, which made perfect sense.

BTW: Good to meet you today, Forrest! I'm looking forward to a more leisurely, relaxed chance to talk in the future.

I don't seems to see and feel any difference between claying and polishing on my relatively new car (less than 1 year). I polish and wax the car every 2 months since it's new. I'm using Mequiars clay. Now a days, i don't use the clay anymore but only polish and wax on a reqular basis.

myauto- Even though you didn't notice any difference, don't feel like you wasted your time claying the new car. The benefits might be what you DON'T see, namely rust blooms from embedded ferrous particles. I've had so much trouble with them that now I use both clay and ABC on new vehicles (apparently with success).
