Who's actually used a Dynabrade Dual-Action Buffing Head

I've been considering one but have never used one and was just looking for some feedback from actual users.

Thanks

I used it on the past....Great power as a DA polisher,a lot of vibration though at low speeds....My rotary's spindle mechanism broke(i don't know if it was because of that ) so i didn't used it again....But you can reach a great level of correction. But i guess it is better to buy a FLEX DA polisher than that.....

i own it and like it but since using the edge products, im not that sure. i love it. it works excellant but i went back to using my dewalt and and edge. but seriously its great. its exccellant for jeweling!

It's great... Get it!

Three good threads about it:

Had the opportunity to try a few machines - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online

TO flex or not to flex that is the question - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online

Dynabrade Rotary converter - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online

From one post I made:

Jason Rose and I were product-testing yesterday and he used the attachment several times, with great success.

Dynabrade #61374 Random Orbital Head Kit

Converts Standard Rotary Tool to a Random Orbital Polisher!

For mounting to tool motors up to 3,200 RPM.

5/8"-11 Female Thread

Kit Includes:

Random Orbital Polishing Head (patent pending)

50855 Hook-Face Backing Pad, 7" (178 mm) diameter

90082 Natural Sheepskin Polishing Pad, 7" (178 mm) diameter

50679 Wrench, 26 mm

He also used a long-throw, air-powered random-orbital.

A Dynabrade Dynabuffer #10240 (which I cannot seem to locate online info).

It's random-orbital with a 12mm diameter throw, double-counterbalanced, gear-driven machine.

I just called to ask him which was more comfortable, and he said by far the rotary attachment (Especially during extended use)!

This is exactly what Mike Stoops observed (posted in the linked write-up).

Both of them worked well.

The Dynabrade is a great choice. Keep in mind that it is designed for use with 8" pads from the factory.

The backing plate can be removed and a smaller one can be installed, though. PorscheGuy997 did this.

No guide that I have ever seen.

For me, it was most comfortable to use at high speed

I really like the attachment, but I am in line with a lot of folks...

A dedicated random-orbital is nice to have in your tool arsenal (such as the Porter Cable, UDM which is now a Porter Cable, or Meguiar's G110).

They are small in size, very controllable, and backing plates can be easily changed to accommodate various pad sizes.

Some guys like the Flex, which is a proven contender. I did not like the feel of it, but I take nothing away from its capabilities.

Bosch, Makita, and Festool make similar or dual-mode machines, so they are also worth a look.

Currently, the Flex is the only one with a variable finger trigger and such high rotational speed... Which is cool!

I have a UDM a Rotary polisher and the Dynabrade.... : )

I used to use it before i became proficient with just the orbital. It works nicely!

The pics below is a few years old and one can even remove heavy compounding

marks (3M black waffle w/3M Swirl Marker Remover). The paint was very fresh...

This was the first time using the Dynabrade RO head kit and i brought it outside

to check quickly (left side of the hood)

Don't laugh too much! I've advanced much since with all new products and better technique.

It's very nice to have. BUT, i highly recommend getting familiar with the orbital only.

And you wont need it. :)

I have had one for close to 3 years now. It is a great tool. You can use it to finish with or do light correcting. It is a bullet proof tool

I cut the foam backing plate down to the hard plastic portion so I could use 6" pads with it. I never use it below 5 on my metabo.

I think I posted a thread about it on the Optimum forum with some pictures.

Do you guys ever get hologramming with it or is it pretty fool proof like the orbitals? I use my rotary a lot for speed and just finish with a Cyclo or orbital but if I could finish with this without any trouble that would be great.

Thanks Eliot Ness for including this.

You can finish off with 0 holograms with this tool. I use a finishing pad and a little FPII

I looked at the new model when I was at the Paint supply house the other day. It is now a cast metal and can be switched from a rotary to orbital with the push of a button. Mine is made from a billet piece of aluminum and is probably 3 years old now.

Thanks guys. I think I might give this a shot come spring.

I'll be giving it a shot a lot sooner, I believe. $120 is a lot cheaper than $270 for a Flex and apparently the Dynabrade has more cut too.

I had one and sold it. For me, it was just "Okay," but keep in mind I'm a rotary purist and only use a DA rarely...I simply didn't get much benefit from it. I simply preferred my Rotary and PC combo...though I might be the minority in that regard.

Keep me posted Scott!
