Whos a Fan of Glazes?? Worried about excessive polishing

Hey there everyone, Ive got a 2002 Carbon Blue celica (pretty much black but with a blue flake) and was thinking about picking up some Menzerna Finishing Glaze. My car is a daily driver with 65,000 miles and I already have some Menzerna Final polish and intensive polish (along with WG sealant, s100 carnauba wax). My car was polished/waxed by hand ever since the day it was bought up until 200 miles ago with Meguires products. I was thinking the other day, how much polishing is too much polishing?? I probably fully detail my car once every 2-3 months and have recently just bought a UDM. I was thinking of extending my full detail for the paintwork every 3-4 months now since im paranoid of getting rid of too much clearcoat and using the glaze every month along with the sealant and wax. So when it gets down to it how much polishing is too much polishing to cause harm?and what is your opinion on using glazes??
 
Here is my 06 GTI that has 28k on it but and here is what I do



Wash every week using a two bucket system

Wipe down with Meguiar's UQD spray detailer after each wash.

Apply a base coat of NXT with a top coat of #26

Apply a new coat of # 26 every 6-8 weeks

Apply a new coat of NXT every 3-4 months with a new #26 top coat

Clay once every 6 months, or as needed

Yearly strip down with a polish, new NXT base coat & and a new #26 top coat



When I was a kid I had a yellow 73 VW bug that I waxed every month and polished every two, I soon found out that the primer coat on my VW was white. I am also very concerned about doing too much but have learned that if you do the right thing doign less is doing more.



I touch my clearcoat at most once a year and expect my RED car to look RED for a very long time. This is my third red GTI and they all have always looked great

Overpolishing is not usually a big deal with a UDM - if you use final polish every 3 months or so, your clear will last 10+ years. However, I would highly suggest using a glaze anyways - they really add something to the finish and they do help hide the tiny swirls that come in from wash to wash. I would reccomend Danase Wet Glaze or CG Ez Creme Glaze for Carbon Blue - they'll bring the flake out, and they wipe off like butter. Menzerna FTG is a good looking glaze but it is a real pain to use - I ended up selling mine.
 
thanks for the insight both of you. I plan on using a glaze that has fillers and no abrasives whatsoever. Just so I can hide the swirls until the next polish job can be performed.



Hey timmah what made the menzerna glaze so hard to use? Was it a pain to wipe off?

Glare pro polish is a great one for just that purpose. apply by hand or machine, then by hand as a sealant and the fillers won't wash out.

Polishing by hand is not a problem, with a UDM, PC & Rotary, after two full cuts with strong levellers (800 to 1200 grit), I'd just reserve your polishing to 2000 to 4000 finishing polishes and glazes.



have just started on mine. Did half with permagard PD5000 and other with Glare pro polish

Really happy with the fillers not washing out.



One thing I have up my sleeve against you yanks is Showroom glaze

I can buff that in for hours every day and it will remove baby swirls, hide stronger ones and make the clearcoat look deeper and wetter all without taking a hint of clear off as its a spray QD with special attributes.
