Hey guys, sorry fir sucha long post but what exactly do you do in their full details, and how much? I might creep in into a high volume work as a part time job into a big street of dealerships and the dealer was telling me they charge 80 bucks but they do crappy work even by dealers standards. They cannot even do a proper headlight restoration lol. And i dont need a lot of money, just a side kind of job you know. couple hundredth bucks a day will be more than enough. thanks for all the help its really appreciated!





i was thinking maybe a quick one step with m105 mixed with sealant an orange pad and DA on exterior, trim, plastic, tires protected, glass cleaned from both sides, carpet shampoo, all plastic interior parts scrubbed and protected, leather cleaned protected or vinyl seats cleaned. BTW i dont have an extractor, and no mobile van like some mobile detailers have with their own water, power. Detailing is only a hobby/side job.

thanks John, but how should i price it? and how long should it take me? I got used to 8-20 hour paint corrections and i dont even know how to price my services.
 
i was trying to pick up a used car lot account and they told me that they really want me to focus on the interior and just a basic clay and seal/headlights/and engine for the exterior, i would say $120 per car flat rate, you will make your money in mass work.
 
Meg D151 on orange and remove with cheap spray wax. You have to be somewhat fast todo well with dealer work. 4 hours for a single person if you move FAST but if you could get 2 in a day that good money for 5 day a week. Get you in good shape too!



But I wouldnt protect inside unless very dry, save your cash for more important cars that need dressing/protect
 
wash, clay, megs 151 on orange pad (fills and cuts a little), optimum car wax for the waxing part

vaccum, carpet shampooing, leather cleaner/conditioning (one step), wipe down all plastics with megs hyper dressing mixed high at 20:1, and engine spray down and dress with chemical guys barebones....done! should be about 4 hours all said and done.



if they dealer wants scratches removed and more paint correction, charge by the hour for that but tell them you are doing it cheaper than your other typical paint correction price.



also, get some help so that you can get to 3-4 of these a day if the dealer has that kind of volume.

alone would be about 4 hours @ 120 = 30/hr

pay someone to help you at $10 per hour and now you are getting more work done in less time, your hourly, and day rate will go up and you will work less. put the help on the interior stuff and the wheels.
 
We charge $70-$90 for a complete detail. You don't need to wax exteriors or dress interiors on dealer cars. Waste of time and product. Buy your products by the largest size possible to get the best price. Concentrate on reducing your "touch time" where ever possible. No reason why a decent detailer can't put out atleast 3 full details in a regular work day.
 
I mean how beat up are these cars getting? if they're new cars, I can't really see the cars needing more than a quick once over--a light dusting as it were.



If you're dealing with the used cars and have to get them up to showfloor quality, I would think an AIO and maybe a quick spray wax? and for those that need correction would be hourly--inside I would say spot clean with APC as necessary and a quick wipe down?



But i suppose it would depend on the dealer and stuff xD either way kind of curious how you decide to handle it--btw the 151 seems to have issues with soft paint
 
Megs 151 or Automagic BC2, follow with Megs ULT. spray wax or Duragloss Aquawax. This combo should make the cars look great. Your problem is whats the best way to do interiors.
 
I do a basic exterior wash,buff (whatever spots need it),wax, vac, shampoo carpets,scrub interior and windows. Headlights are extra. Ohh and I do the engine bay as well. $85-$125 depending on the size.



I will post pics this week of cars I do and you tell me if you can bang out 3 of these a day ALONE! lol hahahaha DAVID F.
 
I've been getting into dealer work lately. Have been doing scratch repair on these cars as well and I can knock out three in a full day by myself without issue. I'm probably getting them delivered to me in better shape though.
 
3 full jobs on dealer cars in 1 day are pretty average if you have to right stuff at your disposal. Sure, if they are trashed it takes a little longer but they aren't all like that. Hopefully you are getting more to do them anyways.
 
i stopped using 151 for the soft paint issues. I dont do dealer work, but megs 66 would provide a little but and chemically clean the paint and make it shiny!!!! try that out as well



3 in a day would be stretching it for anything quality, but then again, dealer work at dealer pay isnt necessarily quality!
 
Depending on your area, you can make decent money if you can do enough cars for the low price they pay, problem is if you are a perfectionist, the work won't be very satisfying. The new car dealers around here have their own *cough* detailing staff, and the tote the note lots always go with the low bid. Not really any money in it around here unless you can find a specialty dealer (like high end cars, muscle cars) that is willing to pay for quality work.
 
The average rate here is about $80-$120 for the lower end cars which I avoid. I get the higher end dealers that are willing to pay $175 for an average size compact and $200 for an Escalade size SUV. The dealer pretty much makes up the cost with a quick sale and profit on these higher end models which they would not be able to sell if the cars looked all swirled up.



With the recession and low sales of new vehicles per week the dealers here learn't that they needed to aquire a lot of auctioned cars to make up for the lost sales of new cars to make ends meet, once the number of used cars increased their internal detailing staff just didn't perform and fired them all and started using private contractors like us who do it right the first time and only call us when they need something done which is pretty much 5 days a week. We get rush calls like "The customer is here waiting for his car, but we gave you the wrong car to detail yesterday !" type of calls ...LoL



Basically I use a jet gun to hose down the car, engine compartment, quick air dusting of the interior, vacuum and window wipe. For the exterior a wash, quick clay on the horizontal planes and an one step, polish, buff and seal on the paint and a final wash before driving it into the showroom for a final inspection and quick detail. Takes about 2 to 2-1/2 hours with a crew of two per vehicle, we usually buff 2 cars and do 2 new car prep within 4-5 hours. The used car manager loves our work and he isn't one complaining when he is able to sell his cars at a higher price then when their internal detailing staff couldn't do ...even started calling us artists !
