Who knows what about a product called California Quickshine?

A product that seems to be being marketed pretty heavily at the moment. Search turns up nothing, neither here nor at DC.

I checked the website and saw they are affiliated (to what degree I don't know) with Porche Club of America and the Miata Club. Maybe he saw it on the Miata sites?

I consider it to be aggressive marketing when someone with a financial interest in a product writes an article about paint care and has it published in Miata Magazine, recommending sealants (his product) over waxes (the competing product), and then the product shows up at Miata Forum vendors with the tag line, "As seen in Miata Magazine!"

I'm not saying the product is good or bad, just that that type of marketing raises my eyebrows a bit.

Maybe it reflects more poorly on the magazine than the product. However, one thing I've learned here is that there is no one "truth" relating to which product is superior. I've decided to find out about CQS, maybe try it out a bit. But geez, I have so much stuff on my plate waiting to be evaluated. I still have to do the Crystal Guard.

I have a product right now (Auto Guard) that is phenomenal at protecting the surface against acid rain, UV, etc; the only problem is, it looks kind of lackluster. If you weren't Autopian it would look OK, but what good is that?

Also: how important is aditional UV protection for modern finishes? I'd guess that it's kind of far down the list of attributes I'd want in a product, but I have no idea if that's true. If I'm wrong, no big deal.

Well.

The featured article, written by someone from CQS, was in Miata Magazine, and CQS is now a "featured product" at Serious Auto, a Miatanet sponsor. It seems that the owner of Serious Auto is the Administrative Contact for Mazdaevents.com, which is owned by the same person who owns Miata Magazine.

Circle complete!

Wouldnt be the first time a product was hyped, heck I even fell for a few of them. When the dust settles it either works or it doesnt. Strange how some will still swear its the best right up to the end, the mind is amazing

I remember when Finish First was the hyped product on Honda-Acura.net. Enthusiasm for that petered out pretty quickly.

Is this the website? http://www.quickshine.com/

Sounds just like Finish First, Liquid Glass, Meguiar's #20, etc, etc, etc. Prolly just another aminofunctional polymer product with a high % of petro distillates. Yawn....
