Who is doing a true touchless wash

Aside from Superbee with his super LSP ;-), who else is going a true touchless wash.

- Foam Cannon with soap/dwell

- PW rinse

- Lawn Blower Dry & or Dry with MF/WW

I am curious is anyone else is having success doing a true touchless wash.

I am considering purchasing a foam cannon, and my regimen would be similar and the only thing extra in my mix would be the extra component of deionized water as the source feed for the PW.

i wash my car 2-3 times a week sometimes and aside from wheels, thats how i do it. oh and i dont use a leaf blower or air, since i use DI water exclusively, i let her air dry au natural

I don't think it's possible to successfully do a true true touchless wash - you need some form of agitation to remove some of the dirt - I've sat there foaming and then blasting with my PW for a full tank of gas (to see out of curiousity how clean it'd be), and my ONR still pulled off an itsy bitsy bit of dirt.

Yeah, if it's really *dirty*. BUT...

I think that you can do OK without the agitation (depending on what "OK" means to you) as long as you don't touch-dry it (which would mar from the residual dirt). At least if it's not too dirty.

I've DI-rinsed my vehicles when they got a little wet/dirty right after a wash, and while they didn't come out *clean* they did look better than had I just let the dirty rainwater dry on them. Since that was just a non-PW/non-shampoo rinse, I was pretty satisfied with the outcome. Guess it's a matter of degree...both the extent of the soiling and the person's standards.

So basically you're agreeing with me - autopean standard dictate you should be able to touch it with a MF towel post-wash and have a 0% chance to marr the clear :woot:

Heh heh, well I'll agree given the "Autopian Standards" disclaimer.

But I do see the point of "can't touch it or it'll mar" rinses/washes like I sometimes do. Couldn't have touched it had I not done that half-@$$ed cleaning anyhow, so no harm no foul IMO.

Maybe it's just not something I'd consider a "true wash"

been picking up way too much ~crap~ this week and debating whether to add the damm cannon to the list ;-)

I see the + side on emulsification with regular hand washes as well.....and I'm not looking at this from the angle of - wow, look at that shaving cream ;-)

OT...as I was looking at couple of links while doing some homework but it seems like there are others out there *auto carwash operators* using rotary nozzles. I would think, without doing too much homework that a rotary nozzle is erring on a not-so safe side with a PW. Even for simple things like trim on the car

I use a foam cannon and only find myself having to use a mitt if the finish is very dirty. Otherwise, the pressure washer and foam cannon are enough to remove all of the dirt. Never have issues...

I agree. There has been trim on some of my cars that any of my PWs woulda messed up with the rotary nozzle (which does, IME, work quite well).

The rotatary's are a whole nuther diatribe I'll revisit in another thread. Angle spread, water flow, etc (I was thinking of ~enhancing~ the touchless wash process).

I do think there will be 2 schools of thought.

- It will rip off trim, paint on plastic bumpers, etc

- We use rotaries. It's X nozzle, with X angle spread, and we stand X distance and does wunders for us...

-------more homework to digress and follow on this topic.

Oh schitz, I just realized I am talking to Mister Accumulator - the Mr. PW man who owns that killer undercarriage wand.

No, no...my undercarriage wand is household/hose pressure only (which is pretty decent in my case given my booster pump, but still...) and my PW experience is quite limited.

My only PW experience has been the four various Karchers I've had, all of which died right after the warranties ran out. But the rotary nozzle really did make a diff for me. The gas powered Karcher (forget the model # and specs) really did some work with that nozzle...while it was working.

I see. They do make a waterbroom which is relatively inexpensive on the grand scheme of things. It's like $40 with 4 heads and a 16 inch width in the length of the head.

Toys add up real quick. Been looking all over but 100' PW hose of any variant is up there in price.
