White residue on trim

How do I remove this stuff? It's on all my exterior trim (door handles, running boards), especially the hard black plastic. It's from the wax and metal polish I am certain. I've used Poorboy's Exterior Trim Restorer, and that works for a time, but then the white stuff comes back.

Thanks!

Thats one of the worst problems with detailing, avoiding any and everything other then paint, when polishing. ya justhave to be cautious from the get go. But, i too, am curious as to what everyones little "magical trick" is.......Its been a while since its happened to me, but I like to use the Megs Trim Detailer also......

On one of my cars (my wife's Liberty) it is pretty bad - been thinking about getting the stuff that Autogeek is selling. On my car, I've used that blue masking tape on all the trim and I hardly have any whitened trim. Taping the trim only takes about 5-10 minutes to do and is worth the time.

PB's Trim Restorer has always worked great for me. Did you apply it with a terry or MF applicator, and a little elbow grease? If you just wipe it on gently, it usually just masks the stain for a while. You need to scrub it a little to remove the stain completely.

I have had the same problem with the Poorboy's TR, that it just seemed to hide the problem, although White95Max says if you scrub with the TR it will remove the residue (a technique I didn't use). Bill North had a piece on here somewhere about using EO A2Z (now called All Wheel and Tire Cleaner) and scrubbing the trim with a toothbrush, which worked for me. Just be a little careful with that because the A2Z is harsh, and will remove LSP.

EDIT: Maxy beat me in here!

I use the small foam paint prushes. put it on and buff with a soft mf towel

I use a thing from Chux called a Magic Eraser... I think its the same as the one from Mr. Clean. Its just like a foam eraser, and works quite well on more porous surfaces that other things wouldn't work. Just don't rub it on your paint because it scratches it easily :nervous:

Trim Restorer took care of these wax stains with a little scrubbing (MF applicator):

Sorry for the different angle, but I can assure you every bit of those stains came out after a little scrubbing.

Hmm, no, I didn't use any elbow grease with the PB stuff. I just used a cotton cloth to apply and remove it. I'll switch over to one of my pakshak MF towels next time and buff it with the PB restorer.

I think AIO and Collnite 845 are what is causing the white residue (and the chrome polish), so I dunno if I would want to go intentionally applying that stuff on there. :D

One other thing I've noticed is that the PB restorer tends to run in the rain. A lot. I have streaks all on my truck now. When it stops raining I'll QD it, but is there any way to prevent this in the first place?

Yes, if you buff off the TR really well, it won't run.

And I intentionally covered all of my plastic trim with AIO a couple weeks ago. It doesn't stain plastic.

Damn. That would probably be a better trim proctectant than TR or 303 if it lasts awhile on the plastic. I might have to try that.
