White Letter Blues

I need a new job
Hey folks, a guy brought me his truck to clean, and on it he has four brand new tires with white letters. Well, I tried apc 4:1 and that barely removed anything. Then I hit it with some bleach white, that got most of it, but there is still a hint of blue. Any other suggestions, I scrubbed my A$$ off and I still have a little shade of blue present.

Great thread title. I try APC first. If that doesn't work, acid.

why not try APC straight...that blue protectant is pretty strong stuff on some tire brands

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, I'll give them a try tomorrow and let you know what worked.

SOS pads do work well if you don't have an APC or enough of it to do a straight application. The previous owner of my truck had some nasty dressing on the tires that wouldn't come off after 4 attempts at cleaning. The white letters had brown dressing residue on them and both rear tires have a lot of the white lettering scraped off. I'm either getting tires w/o white lettering next time or having them mounted the opposite direction. The letters are too much of a PITA. Plus I think plain black walls look better.

Dont get white letters on the inside, or I wouldnt because people can see them from a certain angle when they look at the vehicle. Just looks out of place...Plus I think the white letters bring out a good look in some colors of vehicles.

Thats why I say lower it!!

2x4 lower it, 4x4 lift it!

Do you have a pressure washer and a hot water tap to hook up to? When I worked at a dealership years ago and had to deal with blue letters this was the easiest way to strip the blue off. NO APC needed just the pressure of the hot water would strip it off. If you don't have a pressure washer the next resort would be s strong mix of APC and a SOS pad or some kind of scrubby pad to use will work pretty good.

use a wire brush with mean green and water, followed with a hose rinse.
also check out RespectTheMullet.com, it's a great video detailing the exploits of the master of smoothness..

best of luck, mrdetail
