WHITE head lights

I did a customers 1997 mecedes today (pics to follow. Forgot to drop them off at Wal-Mart) Anyway her headlights are practically all fogged over with this haze. What is that? I tried to remove it by hand with some cleaner wax and it did come off. I wanted to get some advice before I tried the PC and some more elbow grease. :nixweiss

If it's fogged up from the inside there may be a leak allowing moisture in. If it's "yellowed up" like older cars, I've heard that some nail polish remover quickly rubbed across the surface should clean the lights up. Don't leave it on for too long because the acetone will MELT THE PLASTIC!

wow, I am a little nervous about taking her front end apart. I may try some other tricks (nail polish remover) before I go to that level. I thank you.

Is it an E Class? I've noticed they tend to get a haze on the outside of the headlights and usually DACP will remove it. If it is on the inside though...I'd leave it to the dealer. Let them mess up the lights.

I would NOT recommend the oven/taking apart method if it's not your car. You don't want to screw up a customer's car when attempting this procedure for the first time...

A lot of cars with plastic headlight covers will benefit from a good cleaning with some plastic cleaner by Novus, Meguiar's...or any other plastic cleaner that's designed to remove scratches.

Yellowing headlights is a huge problem on SVX's (my car). Through our network of a ton of owners, we have decided that Novus is the best product for getting rid of the yellowness.

Bwana, I have the same problem with my old Benz headlights -- major scratches & yellowing before I moved to Autopia. Which strength of Novus is recommended? (I've heard there's 1, 2, & 3 in terms of abrasiveness.)

Lynn,

I have used Novus with great results on the taillights and rear plastic center panel on my 300ZX. I have used the #2 to remove some minor scratches up around the rear hatch area.

At the shows, I wipe down the lenses and panel with #1. Its perfect for cleaning your speedo cluster lens etc. Perfect for everyday use.

Trust me you won't be disappointed with Novus.

Here is one of the cheapest places I have found it for:

The Novus products do a great job for me as well. I have only used #1 and #2.

In addition to the uses that Pats300zx has mentioned, I've also used the Novus products to rescue scratched CDs.

I get my supply from my Harley dealer.

:shocked Run far far away from the acetone! That stuff is way too harmful for plastic. Some nail polish removers aren't as strong as straight acetone so I'm not sure if you really want to use that. You might want to try it on your vehicle before you possibly damage a Mercedes Benz. If you try to clean your eye glasses with acetone (most are polycarbonite lenses) you will have to buy a new pair because you just ruined them!

This is JMHO, but better safe than sorry. The last thing you want is to lose customers.

I have the Novus #1. It doesn't seem to touch even the lightest scratches, nor does it seem to make the plastic shine as well as Plexus.
