white discoloration after scratch-x and polish

My friend has a highly oxidized hood and roof (91 chevy caprice) So today decided to do a experiment and washed a small section of the roof and proceeded to apply scratch-x in a area. While rubbing it in the paint looked fine but after it was removed it left a white spot. The same when meguiars polish was used.

This was very odd and unfourtunatly no time for pictures (or trying more product)

Also the spots remained after quick detailer was used in an attempt to clean them. But while the area was wet it appeared normal.

any ideas?

Sounds like etching in the clear coat to me. With your finger nails can you feel a rough area in the white spot areas?

I just did a car that was badly oxidized. I spent alot of a time with the 3M Perfect-It compound, and it did wonders with the oxidation, by the time I had finished the car looked as good as new. After the compound I polished with #7, then topped with megs wax.

This would be my plan of attack. The GODFATHER has the right idea.
Hand wash with Meg #00 and dry
A compound [Meg] with a wool pad
Hand wash and clay the vehicle using Meg #00 as a lubricant rinse and dry
Mask off all trim and molding
Followed by DACP with a PC @ 5.5 w8006
SFP @ 5.5 w8006
LSP NXT X 2 1 application by PC @ 3 w9006 2nd coat by hand

unfourtunatly dont have buffer, but have a friends father who runs charter boats who is willing to teach me the way of the rotary buffer when there is a chance.

the white spot wasnt there prior to applying the scratchx..the panel was just gennerally all over white...but it made it whiter...if that makes sense..

my guess was it might have just moved oxidation around as the center was less white htan the edges...

hope to have a chance to try to work on it, it would be a nice challenge.
