Which wool pad on a clear coat?

What type of wool pad is safe on a clearcoat? I've read that twisted wool is no good...which ones are safe?

twisted wool isnt necessarily unsafe. Depends on a number of things such as type of paint, defects to be removed, paint thickness. For general cutting and polishing twisted is gonna be overkill. AG's gotta purple foamed wool, and edge has a variety of wool all they way from heavy cutting to finishing. Leave some info about the car your working on and im sure someone will point you in the right direction.

I was just trying to get a feel for what pads I should and shouldn't purchase for most rotary work. I know Hondas have soft paint so I'll use that as my example just to be on the safer side.

Twisted wool is fine. Just stick with a less aggressive product to be safe if you're starting out. Foamed wool is great, but doesn't have the typical "wool feel" when you're buffing because it's not as thick. Wool is actually easier to control than foam and creates less heat. It just cuts much faster/easier than foam and requires foam pad finishing after.

I love the purple foamed wool; it cuts well and finishes off nicely. Twisted wool is for deep correction; every time I've used it I've had to come back over with a medium cut wool or purple wool to remove the marring and holograms.

Thanks guys...I think I have a better understanding of what to use and what to expect now. This place never fails me.
