Which wax?

Hello everyone, I am new to the site. Have gotten some new toys in the last year. Black BMW 540i and Black Harley Davidson and neither have been waxed, just washed. Been researching the site and feel that the Souveran Wax and Natty's Blue seem to be popular for black cars. Big price difference. Do they sell the Souveran ($95) without the microfiber and other items, just the wax? Leaning towards Souveran if I can get a better price. Any advise. New guy to waxing/detailing car. Any good direction to a thread which is considered excellent and has all the steps would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

On the wax I like the Nattys red or blue, and for the money they are great waxes..the Souveran is a good product but your going to be hard pressed to see the difference in your cars between the two.

That said sounds like you should be thinking about clay and polish for your 540, I have had two jet black BNW and they are not just a wax and leave alone finish.
 
Natty's Blue is a good option, I haven't used the Souveran paste, but the Liquid Souveran is a nicely priced alternative. As Beemerboy correctly noted, if you do a good job of prepping your paint you will probably have to study pretty closely to tell one from another. If you want to test that statement, do a side-by-side comparison on your rear deck (trunk) or hood.
 
I have all of these and I agree with Dave you will be hard pressed to see the difference...well other than in your wallet. Its not to say that Souveran paste is not good but laying it down side to side next to Nattys they look the same...although Natty's does smell better.
 
Why wax a sealant would look just as good and last much-much longer.
I read how much better wax looks but when I put Pinnacle Souveran on a panel of my car and DG-105 on the rest and took it to a show like that no one noticed not even the Judges and I won an award.

So much for the Superior look of wax. :rofl
 
+1 for Sealants. I like the look of a sealant and the durability. In the past I used P21S Concourse and it looked great and beaded great for about 2 weeks of hot sun. Used some sealants and they exceeded that wax. Only issue is you need to be able to properly cure the sealant. This means keep the car dry and clean (optinal) for 24 hours after each coat.

If you want to mess around and add coats every week or 2 it does not matter. If its a DD and you want a stand out car, I suggest a sealant. The prep prior to applying and wax or sealant is so time consuming for me. Especially for black, that I cannot use a wax. That said, colonite 845 is extreemly durable and has been my winter LSP on my truck that sits outside 24x7. Truly a great looking and durable LSP.

The Poorboys products are also very good. I use their wash, tire shine, sealant and microfiber cloths. Don't be fooled by prices. They are not indicative of quality. Read and ask questions and you will learn. I get very caught up with finding the best. Any truly, they are all good. You need to figure out what you are looking for and then find the best one that fits your needs.

Prep is 95% and the LSP is the easy finish. Without the right prep (wash, clay, polish) the LSP will not matter a bit.

I'm going to go a different route and tell you to go the route of a sealant/glaze just based on the fact that you don't sound like you're going to do any type of correction work. While I haven't used the products, I've seen pictures of them in use and the after pictures and I'd recommend looking into either Prima's Banana Glass Wax or their Amigo sealant/glaze. I know the next time I buy anything car care related, one or both of those are going to be on my list. The amount of defects (marring, swirls, etc) I've seen (on the forums, mind you) that they cover up are ridiculous.
 
JP, the Prima product line doesn't get much discussion, but what discussion it does receive always seems postive. When you add these products to your arsenal I will appreciate reading your experiences.

I think I will try the Natty's product line and start researching how to prep the car since all the research is telling me that it is the most important part. Do you recommend buying all my products from them? I also read that you can use a sealer and then add a wax like Natty's getting the long lasting protection from sealant, but look of the carnauba wax. Is it worth it and how often would you then have to seal and wax the car? Thanks guys

Sealant needs to bond to the paint or it will not last.
Wax over sealant will not last long and will need to be totally removed before reapplying a sealant.

Many people do this if you have nothing better to do with your time wax over sealant is a good way to spend your spare time.

Try the sealant and see if you like the look then if not you have two options go with a different sealant or use a wax.

Not all sealants look the same so you will need to find what you like.
 
Good point BB. sergdman, if you like the look of the chosen sealant, first try adding a second (and even 3rd) application (allowing sufficient cure time between applications). If you still have the desire to continue, then add a coat of wax.

I don't really understand why they don't get a lot of play - the before & afters I've seen of Amigo and Banana Gloss are literally ridiculous in what they can hide. Top that with the fact that Amigo has sealant like longevity, and I don;t see how it's not talked about more often. Then again, we all know how pictures and write ups can be too. You might have just talked me into getting some... :D

I love the look of wax over sealant.

If you look at some of my recent threads you will see what I mean.
 
i would go souveran. it will give the dark glossy look.its amazing.but durability is poor.a couple weeks.then need to reapply. ...buts its so darn easy ..
