Which wax to use

I'm a novice at detailing and have a new Maxima with a pearl white paint and would like a recommendation on which wax to use for good protection and shine of the paint

Well, if you've been reading recent posts here you'l know that thewaxtest.org just introduced a magazine testing a huge variety of waxes and polishes. I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for there. www.thewaxtest.org for more info.

You could also pick up the Autopia Guide To Detailing. It's an e-book filled with great detailing tips, tricks, and info along with suggestions of products to use. Check it out at www.autopia-carcare.com

After I've read through hundreds of posts in this forum, you would probably nail down to Klasse or Zaino for both shine and durability.

I just ordered Zaino, just can’t resist the shine from the member’s pictures.

Good luck on finding the right product!

or Blackfire or platinum or Pinnacle Souveran (of course most ppl use that to top off a synthetic) etc. Lots of waxes used here but yes, BMW318i hit it, Klasse and Zaino are the two bigs ones use on this forum.

Also, Properautocare.com has a review of each wax at the bottom of the page when you are viewing the waxes.

one thing you will find on this forum is that there are many fine waxes. different people like different waxes. i would run a search here on each of the waxes listed above and see what these autopians had to say about each - in great detail! good luck

There’s lots of good products talked about here. So far I’ve tried Blitz, Klasse, Blackfire and Zaino they’re all good and have subtle to obvious differences in appearance and performance. IMHO Zaino would be a good choice for a light color with mica (pearl), it’s very shiny and durability is excellent as well.

Jonbth,

I think the trick to a beautiful shine is the use of clay. The better the paint prep the better the shine. Then lock the shine in with a good sealant, I use klasse but the Zaino system works very well on light colored cars.

I second that. You can use the finest wax in the world, but how you prep the paint is how that wax will perform. You can have a cheap wax outperform an expensive wax if you didn't prep the surface well.

I recommend Mothers, Meguiars, Zaino (for older cars) or 3M works well too. Souveran, Pinnacle, etc. I seem to hear good results from, but they are pricey. Unless you want to dish out the big bucks, that is what I recommend for around 5-10 dollars a bottle. :xyxthumbs

I think you would get outstanding results polishing with Meguiars Swirl Free Polish (from their Body Shop Pro line) and then waxing with Pinnacle Paste Glaz. I've done a pearl Cadillac STS and Infiniti Q45 with those two products are the results are stunning to say the least.

Plan on waxing about every 6 weeks with Paste Glaz since it is a carnuba (but it is so easy to use, you might be tempted to wax every time you wash your car!), and use the Swirl Free prior to waxing 4 times a year.

BTW, also make sure you wash and vacuum weekly. Clean any bugs off the bumpers and mirrors along with bird poop ASAP!
