Which Radar Detector?

Ok. I just realized my cousin has a V1 on his Porsche 911. He said he likes it and hasn't gotten a speeding a ticket yet with it. I think I'm going to save and get the V1.

The v1 will save your *** many times over its a great radar detector, but its not an end all be all solution because sometimes cops wont turn their radars on so you still have to keep your eyes open

V1. The newest model also features POP. POP is the latest form LE. Nice thing with Valentine they can be factory upgraded if desired. I have had V1's for many years.

Cops are not allowed to give you a ticket off a POP reading. Having the feature enabled on your radar detector can inhibit it's performance somewhat. I have a V1 and my first order of business was to turn POP off.

I didn't know that. Thanks

Why couldn't they just ticket you on a "visual" and use the POP as additional evidence? You might beat it in court (or not) but I can't believe they're *not allowed* to issue the ticket if they believe you were speeding, regardless of what device the used/didn't to measure your speed. Perhaps it varies with the jurisdiction, but I *know* that in some areas they can still cite you. I don't mean to sound :argue but I'd hate for somebody to get into trouble because the focused on the technology and not the simple idea that if a LEO (in their judgement) sees you breaking a law they can act on it.

You would never know if he got you with POP or not unless he writes it on the ticket? Even though your RD may say POP (V-1's does not) they always false POP anyway for the most part.

second this, cops can give you a ticket for anything, not to completely knock law enforcement because I know quite a few that are down to earth, but I have heard some nutty stories. Basically they can do what they want, it is up to you to disprove it in court, which is costlier than the ticket. Of course I live in a commonwealth where they can make up there own laws. An example of this is the video that hit the web about a week ago fro St. George, MO, thet cop was having his way with that guy and now the world knows it. Funny yet shocking vid, if someone has seen it post a link.

Yup, it was pretty bad. The little suburb where this happened is a whopping 0.2 sq/mi and a cop can cover every street in the jurisdiction in 20 minutes. They have a big reputation as a ticket mill. BTW, the news has reported that for some strange reason the video from the police can simply can't be found anywhere, it just seems to be missing. There's a shocker.

The annoying clicking sound in the video is apparently from the kid's radar detector. Notice how the cops attitude changes after he sees the camera in the kid's car.

Thats the one, to many wedgies in grade school.

Ok here's the deal:

After further testing, having POP enabled or disabled can actually improve or inhibit your radar detector's ability: Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007

(I personally run my V1 with POP off and X-off b/c x isn't used here and it has shown to improve sensitivity, according to the website posted earlier)

That site has some great stuff, for those interested in radar detectors or laser jammers you should check it out.

As for POP, in most states that are not SUPPOSED to cite you a ticket from a POP reading, but as you all may know, cops may not always follow that guideline.

As for the video of the cop encounter, he posted that video for us too in another forum (www.radardetector.net). I believe (not sure) the case is still pending and he has another good video of him making an alleged illegal u-turn and getting pulled over for it. His detector going off in the video is a Beltronics RX-65.

Also it's pretty important to run with a laser jammer too. Even the V1 will get you busted by laser pretty quickly, it'll detect it, but that's pretty much it telling you to pull over and get your registration ready.

The cop in the video was fired this week. Officially the reason was for "conduct unbecoming" and violating department policy, e.g. not videotaping the encounter on his dash cam.

STLtoday - News - St. Louis City / County

One tidbit that I don't see mentioned much in the news. According to the maps I've seen, the commuter lot where this encounter took place is just outside of the St George jurisdiction.

As for a cop writing a ticket on POP, let's see someone go to court and try to beat a ticket on that basis. No they're not supposed to do it, but what ya gonna do?

"Video removed due to terms of use violation."

Wasn't that a private video? What happened?

Escort 8500 X50 Owner here. Does it's job, use it only on long HWY trips. City driving I dont bother with it.

Yeah I use an Escort 8500 as well. Love it. I thought about the Valentine but really as soon as my detector goes off I slow down. I don't bother to look around until after I slow so I figured the arrows were kind of pointless, for me anyway.

I also am interested in the Lidatek, but it's not available right now :(

But I too only use it on road trips not in the city.
