Which products are winning shows?

We all like to try and discuss products here at Autopia but

does anyone know which brands and products seem to bubble

up to the top on winning cars at the big events? Curious!



I just read that at the Pebble Beach 50th Anniversary event

21 of the top 25 cars used Meguiar's products.

I never hear much about products winning shows. Remember, that it's the process that matters most.



I think this topic will be much like everything else on this forum. All the different shows and judges will be different. Lots of personal preferences out there.

Amen, brother! I've never had a judge ask me what I used on the car. They just ask me how I did what I did.

I’ve read similar claims by Groit’s, Pinnacle, Autoglym, Zymol etc (Marketing Hype)



And I agree with Jngrdman, I’ve only been asked about method never product

That isn't even hard to claim. All you have to use is one Meguiar's product to make that claim. DACP is about the only Meguiar's product I use on my car. That doesn't mean that the whole credit of what the car looks like goes to them. Many companys could make the claim that the top cars used their products. Tell me how many of them used nothing but Meguiar's products. Probably not too many people are purists when it comes to their products.
 
Guy I work with who shows his custom Camaro can make that claim....but Meguiar's sponsors him.

I agree 100%. The process not the products you use to ready your car for a show will bring home that trophy.



The first few years I competively showed my WS6 (before I discovered Autopia) I consistantly won and I had nothing more than Meg's Deep Cystal polish and Gold Class wax on the car. The reason I beat cars that had Zaino, Race Glaze...etc. on them was because my entire car was detailed to the 9's. The motor, interior and even the under carriage was immaculate. There is so much more to preping a car for a show than working on the paint.
 
I do three SHOW cars. A '66 Chevelle, '67 & '69 Camaro. I do the paint. I use Klasse AIO, and Sealent Glazze. I use p21s also on them. All these guys either used Mothers(1) or Meguire's (2) before I showed them what I can do with Klasse. I put 30 coats of Sealent Glaze on in a year on the black '67 camaro.

I went to 2 car shows today and when I see a car that the paint really stands tall I will ask the owner what he uses to get such a high gloss . I found 5 cars that looked very very good and what they said they use is as follows, #1 used the 3 step Mothers with the paste as the last step,#2 used Meguiars Color X, #3 used Meguiars NXT, #4 used Meg. Deep Crystal #2 polish thats it and#5 used Mothers step 2 Sealer and Glaze thats it . They all used QDs, one used Wizzard qd the rest used Meguiars or Mothers qd.

So so true. Its all about attention to detail and prep.



There are a million products out there. You can have the most expensive stuff but if you don't take the time use the products properly (ie prep, attention to detail, etc) then your just wasting your time.



Anybody can wax a car. Its those that take the extra time and that come out on top.
 
This is a pretty interesting topic. I find it amazing and some what amusing at times to see the finishes on some of the so called show cars. The majority of cars I look at in any given show usually have some spider webbing that doesn't take a trained eye to see. I always wonder if the owner thinks or hopes that the judges just won't notice.

The number one problem when people go to wax there car is they didn't prep. Every car I did the paint was so dirty that you couldn't imagine. I'm talking $50,000 limited Chevelle that I clayed for 2 hrs. It was unreal! This car had a whole wall of trophies. It had a wonderful 11 layer paint job. That's how beautiful the paint was. Even under all that dirt. After I was done with it (5 days later) he one his first ever Best in Show and Best Paint out of 3,000 cars. The guy hugged me! He said about 1,000 people came up to him and said "what do you use", "who's your detailer"?

Point is. If you don't take the time with preping the best paint job isn't worth shiz. If you don't polish, clay, and clean the paint it isn't going to show it's true beauty. It's like Cindy Crawford putting make-up on a dirty face (my example to customers). It doesn't matter if you use Turtle Wax or Klasse it's going to look like shiz. I'm telling you guys you have to use Klasse! I only been detailing for cash for about 4 months but I have never seen any feedback about any wax than with Klasse. I always used Meguire's for years and my uncle introduced it to me. His two Camaro's are retired and in the Chevy Hall of Fame. That was his secret for 20 years!

Audipower-my Father’s ‘secret’ for his Jags, surface prep, Klasse and a Carnauba wax.



At most car shows if you enter a well-prepped vehicle, regardless of what sealant/wax you’ll walk away with a win



In fairness to 'some of the entrants', the spiderwebbing remains because the original paint is thin and they don't want to risk an abrasive polish

My "lawyer uncle" as I like to call him has a old Jag., I don't know what year. I have to detail it next weekend for the horrible Ohio winters. All Mahogony inside.

When I go to car shows all I see is dirty paint, spider webs, rippled paint and fish eyes. Which you can get out with a little work. It's funny because these guys worship these cars, or they just act like it, and they don't do the little things that matter.

I hope they don't figure out, because as long as my customers win I win.
