Which product with which pad?

Hey everyone, new member and new to car detailing. Im getting ready to detail my Galaxy Black Nissan this weekend and have some questions. I just bought a PC 7424, the Sonus DAS Pads, Sonus Clay Bars, 3M Perfect It II Rubbing Compound Fine Cut, 3M Perfect It II Swirl Mark Remover, 3M Perfect It II Show Car Liquid Wax, and Zymol cleaner wax.

By my knowledge, I was going to use the 3M Perfect It Rubbing Compound with the orange pad, 3M Perfect It Swirl Mark Remover with the green pad, and I know the PC came with a white polishing/waxing pad, so Im going to use that either with the Zymol cleaner wax or the 3M Liquid wax or the blue pad with the Zymol or the 3M wax. If Im wrong with anything can anyone correct me, and can anyone give me some tips for my first detailing of my car? Thanks in advance. :2thumbs:



Edit: One more question, can the 3M Perfect It Showcar Liquid Wax be layered?
 
After rubbing compound comes Machine Glaze . They make the Imperial in 16oz size at about $12 .

My local shop sells the same one in 32oz though for $17 out the door .

Swirl mark remover has many oils and fillers so washing to remove them and see the true condition of your paint woudl be wise unless you just want to fill your swirls ?
 
You don't have to wash. The SMR has fillers in them and lots of people really wants to see if they removed all of the swrils. Its a unecessary step. You should have removed 90% of the swrils with the fine cut. I would use the Fine cut with orange, SMR with green and use the 3M wax with the blue. The Zymol is a cleaner wax and should be used as a one step in between full details. The 3M wax can be layered.

I wouldnt reccomend actually using that pad. That pad is not something you want to use on your paint! It's of poor quality. You're better off applying your wax by hand than using that pad that came with your PC.

Generally, you probably won't have all that muc use for the Zymol cleaner wax. What Jetskie meant is that you could use it if your car really needs doing but you don't have time to do the whole polish/wax multi-step approach.



I dunno about going straight from the PI-II RC to the SMR. As Papi_Jay said, the SMR/Dark is awfully mild and loaded with fillers (works better, IMO with a rotary than with a PC or by hand). The PI-II RC *will* leave a pretty decent finish if you break it down fully (so spend the necessary time with it) but I'd still use something like the old PI-III MG or the new PI-3000 SMR myself after the RC.



If you wash the car after using the SMR/Dark you may well find that you have all sorts of micromarring (from the RC) that the SMR/Dark had hidden. Dunno if you'll want to uncover such a thing or just leave it covered and put the wax over top of it. This sort of :confused: is one reason why many of us don't care for the SMR/Dark. Heh heh, *now* we tell you, huh?



And take Way2SSlow's advice and *do not* use the pad that came with the PC. I'd either pitch it or use it for something around the house (shower doors come to mind).



Oh, and don't breath the dust from the PI-II RC, it's carcinogenic. I doubt that many people use a proper respirator when they use the stuff, but do try not to breath it in. Silica dust is like asbestos.
