Which product after swirl remover?

Hello all,

I`m about to get my pc from the states and already have ssr2.5 and ssr2 recommended to me.(easier to use than megs #80 etc)

What product is liked and used by many before lsp?

I already have megs #16 and love it.

I also have nxt wax too.

I`ll be using the pc on a black MBenz s320 2002 model with pretty heavy swirls, and also a light green Subaru Impreza with not so much swirl.

Is Pwc or VM worth trying?



Any input would be gratefully received from a UK newbie.

If you like product souring try poorboys, after a few months yuk petroleum scent, and VM is good but has a chemical smell and it's more of a cleaner like AIO. I suggest menzerna fpII hands down. VM, AIO, P21s or S100 are all basically cleaners they wont address the unevening of paint left from contaminants or aggresive polishing like ssr2. If you haven't bought that poorboys yet you might want to try menzerna intensive polish, it's much more forgiving, sometimes you can go straight to sealant if it's a light color, but still out works SSR2 in my opinion. You might be able to skip a step but buy menzerna FPII anyhow for when you don't need the aggresive ones. Menzerna line is so forgiving they don't even suggest usage of rotary but you can use one if you please, dual action or hand application will do almost the same job w/o the risk. Megs or sonus would be a great second choice.
 
I personally think you should have purchased SSR2.5 and SSR1, but a lot of people say SSR2 can be broken down enough that you can go straight to an LSP. I personally have no experience with either, but for polish/glaze types I recommend PwC and AIO. But again, people have gone straight from SSR2 to an LSP no problems.
 
Welcome m4xmw.. With the PC , Megs# 80 is a lot easier to work with than Menzerna or Poorboys and the results are better too. I have PB 2.5 and it didnt 'cut" it for me. Menzerna IP was even more of a pain in the butt, (great for a rotary although) but not for a PC..

For the Black Mercedes I suggest trying them all, if its heavily swirled, its going to take some work. The SONUS pads are top quality too. I prefer them over the LC pads.



Once the swirls are gone to your satisfaction, Vanilla Moose is a superior product to use next !!!! I LOVE VM alot, and the chemical smell makes me see Pink Elephants after a while so THATS a bonus !!!:up :up :up

I have been told that the megs #80 is oil rich and can be difficult to wipe the residue away?

I was thinking of SSR 2 or megs #80 then VM or nxt and finished with #16.

Its difficult to decide what products to buy, theres so much choice and so many good details on this forum.

#80 isn't too bad if you don't work it too long. It breaks down pretty fast so when it changes color (usually to clear, but some say it has turned pink for them) then you're ready to wipe it off. You just don't want to work it until it drys or dusts.



VM is also a great product, leaves a nice wet look, I'm getting ready to put on some VM followed by EX-P on my silver Caravan.



Don't worry about solvent smells, they aren't that bad and you're using it for your car, not as cologne ;)
 
So it seems #80 is the choice on here...

And its looking like VM glaze is too.

Would VM topped with #16 be very wet looking.

I like using #16 for its ease and durability.

(and I dont have to buy more lsp)

I've also seen very good results with NXT topped with #16, and like Jdookie said sometime you may want to try VM, EX and #16.



I just re-read your first post and if you have heavy swirls (on black) you'll most likely need something more aggressive like DACP, SSR 2.5, etc., if #80 doesn't remove them (#80 is really pretty mild for that kind of work).
 
What a helpful lot you are.. and speedy too..

Any tips on applying these products?

I`ll be using sonus pads that come with the PC,so which type of pad to use with which product.



Sorry to ask so many questions... but you are all mines of great knowledge/experience.

Always start with the most aggressive combo and work your way down.

Example:

#80 w/ green pad

VM w/ blue pad

EX w/ grey pad

#16 by hand



And if you apply the first step (#80) and still see swirls, you can either try #80 again with the cutting pad and then follow up with the green pad or you can grab some DACP like John said and be done with it. Even if you use DACP, you will still want to use the cutting pad and then follow with the green, everything else stays the same.
 
As others have said, you'll need the SSR2.5 or DACP for the black MB. You'll never get them out with #80.



JDookie's suggestions sound good, as I do not know that pad system (I use LC or Meguiar's pads only). But it should be DACP with a cutting pad, and then DACP with a polishing pad, and then maybe #80 with a polishing pad if you think it still needs more shine.



Oh wait, you have VM. If you have VM, you can skip the #80, and just use the VM to finish off prior to whatever wax/sealant combo you want to use.
 
HI guys,



I am newbie to detailing and I found today how much of a newbie I really am! I tried to remove the swirl marks on my 84 Honda Accord and was not the least successful! I mean it didnâ€â„¢t do anything!!!!



After washing the car I used the following products in different areas of the car:



3M Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover

3M Finish Restorer

Kit Scratch Out



And nothing worked... not even a smidget! Then I come on here and see this post and it talks about â€Ëœgreen padâ€â„¢, â€Ëœblue padâ€â„¢ and so forthâ€Â¦ did I use the wrong pads? The wrong products? Did I not use them correctly?



I did read the article on the â€ËœLearningâ€â„¢ section.



Aggravating!
