going to buy a PC and wondering which polish i should get for removing swirls and scratches

considering DACP or the merenza line of polishes. the swirls on my car arent that bad but can bee seen in the light, but i have alot of scratches though. my car is about 12 years old now and has gone through a series of automatic/DIY car washes.

from what i see my swirls arent that bad, but i do have alot of scratches (not too deep though)

sugguestions?

I find it hard to believe that after 12 years & automatic car washes your swirls are not that bad!

I used the following on a fairly neglected 5 year old & got great results with the PC

Good wash

Claying

DACP

VM

Poorboys EX

topped with Clearkote CMW

Hey Bretfraz, can you give a little more detail about 1Z. I am considering buying this product and would like to learn a little more. Thanks....Andrew

Well, let's see how Bretfraz's 1Z comments compare to mine.

1Z's Paint Polish (green can) is VERY easy to use. No need to work it for a long time to break it down, and it probably wipes off as easily as ANYTHING (of its type) I've ever used. It stays "wet" for a long time (in a good way). It's pretty mild (won't- by hand or PC- really remove much marring from Audi clear, for instance), IMO, a little milder than 3M's PI-III MG (pn 05937). Does NOt make for a lot of dust or residue. It DOES seem to contain lots of oils (probably why it's so easy to use) and it ?MIGHT? contain some fillers (Zaino users had better do the alcohol spritzer). I've NOT had any bonding issues from these (possible) ingredients nor have I had swirls "come back" because fillers/oils went away. 1Z's PP is currently my favorite "general use" abrasive polish.

thanks for all the replys.

vindaloo, yes it isnt that bad heh my car stays well maintained these days. here are some pics of what some of my swirls look like. my car is pretty dirty right now and my camera sucks, so the paint might look worse than it is.

I can't add a lot to what Accumulator has said about 1Z. I really like the fact that it stays "wet" which allows me to work it fully. I've been using it with a rotary and the results have been great. I've found it more versatile than 3M MG or even DACP, both of which tend to dry quicker, forcing me to use more product to get the paint the way I want it.

2 issues with 1Z PP I've got to mention:

1. The stuff really stinks. Very strong chemical odor. If strong smells bother you, consider another product.

2. The metal can it comes in makes it almost impossible to pour the product in a nice, neat manner. You've got to use a small squirt bottle instead. I have an 8 oz plastic bottle which works great. If you get the 1Z from Detailers Paradise, Nick throws in a small bottle with your order.

Let me know if you have more questions. I've used 3M, Meguiars, and 1Z extensively as of late so my knowledge of them is pretty fresh.

That's a lot what mine looks like too. It has a great shine, but I cringe when the sun hits it at that angle where all the swirls show. I am planning on also going the DACP route since it comes so highly recommended on this site.

The only product I have used that has given me the TRULY perfect results I was looking for was the Menzerna line of polishes. These are True, water-based polishes with no fillers whatsoever. I would not say they are easy to work with, but the results are spectacular. Next to these I would say, for me, its a toss up between DACP and 1Z. If you want perfection, you really ought to try menzerna, particularly on a clack car.
