Which pads to use?

I am thinking of getting a PCXP from AutoGeek as it is on sale (a kit that comes with 5 CCS pads).

I am just wondering which pads to get...will be using it for light compound/polish (going to use meguiar's UC and autoglym SRP)...and also for wax (collinite 845)

It's nothing "professional", I am just a weekend warrior.

I am thinking of orange CCS for UC and SRP but what do use for the wax? There is gray, blue, red, yellow....I keep reading their description over and over again but still can't decide! Please help!

sale is ending tmr night (15% off everything)!!!

Well you're going to need one or two that cut. (Yellow/Orange)

One or two to polish (White/Green)

One to apply wax/sealant (Black)

It'll get you familiar with the different types of pads, so might be a good idea to get a wide range of them.

Don't forget a brush to clean them in between each section/panel.

I find dish detergent (I personally use Palmolive) to be good at cleaning them when you're done. Work the soap in with water and pulsate the pad with your hands flushing the product out of them. Let air dry.

If you can choose, get the 5.5" pads.

Use something milder with Autoglym SRP, a pad with zero cut of its own. I'm a little funny in that I like a somewhat "open" pad with AIOs whereas many prefer a finishing pad, but don't try to use a regular orange light-cut pad with SRP.

I *do* like the orange *Griot's* pad with it, that pad is quite gentle despite its color. Otherwise just use a gentle polishing pad.

but what do use for the wax?

While I just use a red Griot's wax pad with 845, I'd look into the LC Gold LSPing pad.

While most of us have our faves, I wouldn't get *too* caught up in all the varieties of pads. People got by just fine back when there were far fewer choices ;)

I personally think LC CCS pads are the last pads I'd buy, for a PCXP or simular, I'd get the MF cutting pads, 5.5" and order up some of 3D's new pads - the flat ones.

For a weekend warrior using those polishes Id go with 1- orange, 1- white, 1- green, 1- gray, and 1- red. That way you get one of everything and can experiment. But realize you will have to clean them often since you only have one of each. Or Id go with 2- orange, 2- green, 1- red.

Yeah, I agree. I personally wish they would just phase out the CCS pads altogether. I gave most of mine away when I sold my PCXP, and my 4" CCS pads are slowly getting demoted to tire swipes.

Yeah seriously. I find the product gets too easily caked in those indentations on the CCS pads. Flat for the win!
