Which pads to use??? :(

So I have pretty much narrowed down what products I am going to use but now I need to get a PC7424 and some pads/accessories.

I saw some are called CCS pads, and then there is CEVS or something? Which should I get?

How do I know what size pad, will a 5.5" all the way up to a 6.5" fit????

What are your feelings on bonnets and so forth? I see cotton ones, microfiber and lambswool. When would this be best used and how?

This would be my first time doing a true detail on my 07 Black Mustang with 5k miles with light swirls and scratches.

What is a good package that comes with the pads and accessories I need? I notice autogeek sells tons of different packages but that is what makes my head spin, I just want the best of the best but don't want to waste money on stuff I do not need, this is basically still a new car in mint condition!

Thanks alot for any help

By the way I am planning on using:

Poorboys Clay (but open for suggestions on something that is good for a novice)

Menzerna Nano Polish (white pad, speed 6)

Clearkote VMG (blue pad I guess, not sure on speed)

Poorboys EX (not sure if I should do by hand or on what pad and speed?)

Natty Blue

I saw this done on an 04 black cobra and looked nice but really the only product on that list that I have seen over and over with amazing results is the Nano, so I am open to suggestions on the other stuff.

I hear Klasse AIO is great as well! But not sure that would fit in with my comprised list

thanks, my head is spinning round and round and roun :woot2:

I personally like the 5.5" pads. For one, they are currently on sale @ Autogeek. And for 2, I tend to get a little better correction with them vs. the 6.5" pads. Oh, and go with the CCS pads.

Here's the thing, your plan looks good BUT you're not going to know if you're going to need to get more agressive than MNP and a White Pad until you actually start polishing the paint. That's a very mild combination. It may work, it may not. You might want to get an Orange pad or two as well just incase you need them.

i agree w/ getting the smaller 5.5" pad, easier to work w/, better correction, etc.

i would suggest getting SIP also and get both orange and white pads. as already mentioned you don't know what type of correction you'll need until you start. start w/ the Nano and white, if you're not getting the correction you want move up to SIP w/ white, then SIP w/ orange. remember, if you go w/ SIP you'll need to follow it w/ Nano to get out any haze.

Yea I have mostly all 6.5" pads and they're a little difficult to work with for correction. For LSP where you're not needing to apply any pressure and you're just gently going over the surface, a 6.5" pad is nice because you'll get done a little quicker.

Yep - good stuff above. I love using 5.5" pads, and I've even become addicted to 4" ones on the PC.

You're talking about Menzerna 106FF, right? It's awesome, but you'll probably want something more aggressive to attack the swirls.

Good luck - you'll love working with the PC, especially on a new car that you love.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to get the 5.5" CCS white and orange pads and a 6.5" blue finishing pad, let me know if I am missing anything?

I'll grab some SIP as well as the Nano 106 just in case

thanks

best advice i can give you is to be patient, remember that the objective is how clean you get the car not how fast you finish. what product you use is really subjective, but here is a complete list of what i used and how i used it, FWIW. best to have everything ready b4 starting:

Products:

clay

clay lube

menzerna SIP

menzerna 106FF

JetSeal 109

1:1 Isopropyl Alcohol (IAP) / distilled water mix

Flex 3401

3M blue painters tape

250W Halogen lamp

3 LC CCS orange pads

2 LC CCS white pads

1 LC CCS grey / black pad

12 MF towels

Waffle Weave drying towel

What I did, in order:

washed

clayed

washed

taped

removed license plates

removed front grill

menzerna SIP

menzerna 106FF

IPA wipe down

JetSeal 109 (1st coat dried over night, 2nd coat dried 4 hours)

removed tape

final wash

How long:

washing, clay and tape: 90 mins

SIP: 5 hrs

106FF: 3 hrs

JetSeal: 30 mins per coat

Comments:

Spent a lot already on the products listed, so I skipped the glaze and wax steps to save some cash. Will add a layer of wax next month.

Could have used better lighting, might purchase one more halogen lamp and associated stand.

Difficult to tell level of paint correction and the 3M Sun Gun is too expensive, I have to look harder for a brinkman light.

Sorry for asking a newbie question, but what does the IAP wipe down do? Thanks!

the IPA cleans the paint surface and you need it for two reasons.

first, the polishes (SIP, 106FF) have some oils in them that can fill in swirls and scratches, by wiping down an area after you polish you can get a better look at anything you might have missed and re-polish in needed.

second, once you have all your corrections completed do a final IPA wipe down to clean the paint so its better prepared for the sealant and / or wax. the better prepared it is the longer the sealant / wax will adhere and last
