Which MF towels to get?

OK, so I did a search and didn't come up with anything that really answered my question. So I really need to buy some new deatiling products because I want my new car to be as swirl free and clean as possible. So i'm want to switch over to MF.

First off: MF wash mits. Is it really necessary to get a MF wash mit? I was thinking of getting this MF wash mit but it's pretty expensive for a wash mit. Won't the normal ones from pep boys work fine?

2nd: Drying the car after a wash. I'm looking into the Big Blue drying towel, but that's pretty expensive as well. How does it stack up against a normal terry cloth cotten towel?

3rd: MF towels for working with waxes, polishes, etc....

I have used the Meguiars MF towles and they worked great! I'm just going to get a couple of packs of these towles, but if anyone has any other suggestions, i'd like to hear it.

I heard somewhere that even with a MF towel, you can still swirl the paint if you apply with too much pressure. Any truth to that? I thought that was true with terry cloth towels, but not MF ones, I mean i'm not going to be beating up on the paint or anything....

So i'd just like to hear some other suggestions if anyone has them. I know it's a lot of questions, but I sort of feel overwhelmed by all the info and the products out there!

The big blue is great. I personally prefer the absorber which can be bought anywhere Walmart, Target et al. Its only $8 and works great.

MF's call Raney at Pakshak. I bought 12 of his towels and love them. A lot better than the crap at CMA i/e/ the Viper towels.

DO NOT use regular towels to dry your car. If you wash coreectly you should never scratch it because all the dirt should be gone.

I use Chanel sponge for washing. One for the upper portion of the car and one below the trim.

Hey welcome to the forum!

  • The absolute best microfiber you can buy today for polishing, waxing, etc. is the YoSteve.com towel. Not only is it extremely plush and safe, but it's also reasonably priced. CMA's Miracle/Magic Towels were pretty good, but some have complained about linting and inconsistent quality; not acceptable for a $13 towel IMO.

PakShak towels are decent towels at an excellent price. The softness is pretty good and it will not scratch a CD. Email him for the Autopia/eBay special... $19.99/10 towels + $9 shipping

  • A Big Blue drying towel will dry much faster and better than any cotton or microfiber towel. You might want to first take a look at carguy's Perfect Drying Technique and see if you actually need a more absorbant towel.

  • For wash mitts, check out: http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14232&highlight=microfiber Most people like 100% cotton Viking wash mitts.

It's true. Any towel for that matter may scratch or "marr" your paint surface if some dirt or contamination is stuck in the towel. Polishes or waxes that leave a powdery residue may contaminate your towels too.

Thats why a thicker towel with more "grabbing" fibers is so important. Never continue using the same towel if its dirty until you wash it.
