Which Meguiar's wax: #16, #26, or NXT?

I don't know which of the three to pick, except that 26 and 16 are a little cheaper than NXT. What are the differences between them? Im lookin for a wax that will protect for about 2-3 months and also give the paint a glossy and wet look. Thanks!

NXT is a sealant whereas #26 and #16 are pure carnauba waxes. Sealants typically have greater durability than carnaubas but durability reports for NXT are mixed. Some get a month, others get several. However, #16 is a very durable carnauba that, IMO, gives a nicer appearance when used alone than NXT does. #16 is a very clear, crisp, reflective look with a bit of wetness.



I have not used #26.
 
NXT will darken the paint, and lasts a good 2-3 months.



I prefer #16 since it gives a very clear, wet look, and will last 3-5 months depending on conditions.
 
nxt + #16 pretty good combo - NXT definately darkens the paint



used colorx before the nxt and it really brought out the silverflake in my silverstone Z - the nxt on top of that brought more of the gray out but had more shine - topped the two with #16 added gloss with some "depth" ...make sense??
 
i've never heard of 16 lasting 3 to 5 months.. maybe 3 to 5 weeks. oh well, 16 is a very durable carnauba indeed.

ive used NXT + #26/#16

i like #26 better just a bit becuase it felt a bit slicker and seemed glossier, then again maybe since i used a pc with it, it turned out better than #16
 
#26:

AUMaxima-I have never used NXT personally but i can attest that #26 darkens your paint a bit as it did with my white vehicle but it gives it a soft warm glow.



MattZ28-have to agree with ya that #16 does give the paint a clear wet look but also in my observation that it added a bit more gloss,not so much a high gloss but it does look like it in the sun.
 
I like NXT topped with #26 on dark colors.

On light colors, NXT topped with #16 looks very nice.



If I had to pick only one, I would stick with #26........... for appearance.
 
#26 is a lot slicker. Doesnt last long, but lasts more than NXT in my tests.

#16 is a lot more durable (3 months and counting)

NXT looks nice at first. Doesnt last long.

Interesting. I definitely get several months out of #16. It's not Collinite, but I've had it last three months plenty of times, and that was on a car outside 24/7. Not sure how long it would've kept going, I always redid it before it quit beading. Could be a difference in our application techniques or how we wash :nixweiss
 
I used NXT after a coat of Gold Class and was very impressed by the results:

Can't comment on the longevity yet but both the Gold Class and NXT were very easy to put on and wipe off.

Given this criteria, I personally would suggest #16. It is very durable, for me it has been much more durable than #26 or NXT. Also, it has a great shine and gloss. NXT is a bit glossier, and #26 is definitely darker, but if you want glossy and wet, #16 will definitely provide that. I think it will also be well suited to your light colored metallic paint. And it's the cheapest of the three to boot (and IMO, the most fun to use)! :)

In my experience, #26 and #16 have been equally easy to apply and remove. I can apply either to the whole car and remove just fine without having to wipe after each panel. Looks are subjective of course, to me I think I like #16 better. When I used NXT, it always left an oily smear that I was never able to fully remove.

You're not the only one . . .



However, NXT used before #16 is an interesting combo. I didn't allow the NXT to cure; rather, I used it more like a glaze. I applied it, buffed it off as best I could after it dried (still left some smearing), then I immediately applied #16. Removing the #16 residue also took the NXT smear with it, and left a look that was different from #16 alone. I've only done this once, so I haven't really decided if "different" is "better" yet, if you take my meaning. With winter arriving in the midwest, it'll probably be spring before I can play with that combination again.



If nothing else, it gives me something to do with the rest of my NXT.

After reading all the replies, I think I'll go with #16. It seems to the most durable and gives a great finish. I'll have to try it out in March, after the two coats of EGP wear off :p BTW, does it come in paste form only?

3 to 5 weeks? Never heard of it being that poor from anyone. #16 is a real stud of a wax. 8 weeks on a white Expidition, constant rain in November, and not only does it still bead like crazy and the paint is noticably slick but it also looks like I just waxed it (even took pics today, I was so impressed with how it looks). This isn't a vehicle I use QEW on either. It is washed conventionally, using Gold Class Wash and deionized water. Even after 8 weeks and a lot of rain, the water beads race each other down the sides.

Anyway, back on topic, my preference is #16. I like #26 and NXT and both will slightly darken the paint so it looks deeper but #16 has that old school carnauba glow that I personally really like and it seems practically bulletproof.



NXT topped with #16 is a very nice combination as well if you want a deeper look.
