Which Meg pad to use with Meg Swirl Free Polish?

Kind of like the topic says. I have a 01 White VW Jetta with some pretty minor swirls. Just curious if I should use the Yellow Megs pad or the red "cutting" pad on the PC with Megs Swirl Free Polish.

Well it sort of depends. At some point it evens out, but I use the polishing pad.

Use aggressive product with mild pad.

Use mild product with aggressive pad.

You are suppose to use the W9000 or W9006 Finishing Pads(beige). If your swirls are a little worse, then use the Meg's W8006 Yellow polishing pad and follow up with the W9006 Finishing pad.:xyxthumbs You will have an incredible finish!!!:bounce

I see. Well isnt the Swirl Free Polish a really Mild Polish?

Yes. On Meguiar's abrasive scale of 0 to 10, #82 Swirl Free Polish is rated as 3. That is the same abrasive rating as #9 Swirl Remover 2.0.

My knowledge of pads is very limited, but wouldn't you want to use a polishing pad with a polish?

Really the Finishing pad? I dont think I can get those locally (I will call around).

So lets say I can get the finishing pads locally, how does this sound for a process?

Wash, Clay, Wash (if needed), Megs Swirl Free Polish with the yellow pad, S100 SEPC with the finishing pad, then top it all with S100 Wax.

Your plan sounds really good! If I may make one suggestion, I would add #20 Polymer Sealant before the S100 paste wax. I really love this combination!!!

The SFP #82 states right on the back of the bottle to use a W9000 series pad(finishing). However, since you want a little more aggressiveness by using the #82 with a polishing pad and then following up with the S100 SEC with the Finishing Pad, I think that combination will give you an awesome finish!!! :bow

Try the #20 after the S100 SEC and before the S100 paste wax! :up

No pads? Hmmm... well the polishing pad will just have to do. In that case use the #82 with the Polishing pad, and the S100 SEC by hand with a MF folded in fourths. Use light pressure is side to side motions(follow the air flow). This will work great as well.!!:xyxthumbs

Interesting. The #9 says for best results, use a rotary buffer with a polishing pad. Since they have the same abrasive rating, I would have thought they would use the same pad.

My bad, I should have known that there wouldn't be any consistency in Meguiar's recommendations.:p

I think that pad that came with it is more polishing.

Yup Charles, I would have agreed as well. However, I also started using the Finishing pad with #9 after I began using it with the SFP #82. It gives an excellent finish!! Try it!! You will like it!!

I called around, and there is a place that says they have 3M "finishing" pads, no clue on the numbers tho, and they are 8", think that might be a little big for my 5" backing plate ya?

For the part # of a smaller (6.5 or 7" can't recall) 3M finishing pad, look in my PC thread linked below. I list one in there.

Ok well I can get that 3M on that you mention in your thread, how do you think that will work on a Megs 5" backing plate? Or should I also get a 6" 3M plate (man this is getting expensive;)

I'm sure the 5" should work fine as long as you don't abuse it. It just has to have enough grip on it to keep it firmly stuck on.

POlishing pad? What is a "polishing pad? Is that a mild cut or light cut or is it a finishing pad. I know for the cyclo i use Light green pads which are used for polishing. They have some cutting action but not as strong as the yellow pads.

How are the results using the #82 and the DA? Can I use the DA polisher or is the rotary better?
