Which Counter Weight on PC7424 With Edge 2K 6" Pads?

Hi,

Settled on this combination of DA and pads. What is the counterweight that most people here use with the Edge 2K 6" pads? 5" or 6"?

TIA

Hi gohch,

I have the 6" weight and it works great, a bit jumpy on low speeds (up to 3) but nice and smooth on high speeds (can hold with one hand on 6).

Hope this helps,

I think there has been much talk around here that you cant really tell the diff. between counter weights...maybe someone else could jump in and back me up here.

With reference to 4830Deuce's comments I should add that I cant compare to the 5 weight.

what would happen if you didn't use the counterweight at all?

The counterweight is to balance the rotational forces from the eccentric (orbital) rotation of the foam pad + backing plate. If the load is not balance there would be a unbalance rotating force that would lead to vibration of the PC head. So the counterweight balances out the forces. The heavier the foam pad + backing plate combination the higher should be the counterweight.

Not sure if it would go KABOOM, but I guess bearing and motor wear would be higher if the forces are not balanced adequately. On the usage side of things, one would experience a much greater level of vibration if no weight is used.

I use the same combo you have and I use the six inch weight with 6" Edge pads and it runs great! Those pads are super!
