I used to order my "Ultras Heavy" mitts from West Coast Detail Supply but now that David has closed I was curious where is everyone purchasing their Sheepskin mitts from?

I liked the Eurow line but am looking at the SM Arnold, Mothers, or Viking line as an option.

Only problem is I won't get to hand select them as I have done in the past :(

How did you get to hand select the ones you ordered?

I have loads from back when you could get them locally but when the need arises, I'm going to put my trust in AG, DI or Griot's and order the plushest one they sell. In the rare case that it might happen, I guess I'll just send them back if I don't like them.

Bill,

I picked up many fron Walmart back years ago and hand picked the thickest/plushes mitts.

With West Coast detail suppy he has 4 different choices and I picked the Ultra Heavy ones. They are the heaviest mitts of all I own.

Jeff,

You and I probably got some interesting looks in the WalMart automotive section checking out all the mitts back in the day ;) :chuckle:

It's such a shame West Coast had to close. Here's the plushes mitt I'm aware of online:

Sheepskin wash mitt, Supernatural Wash Mitt, The Wookie mitt, wool wash mitt

It might be overkill but I can't picture it not being the perfect candidate. I'm betting the quality control of the sheepskins AG and similar sites sell is pretty high so I'd bet we'll be satisified with the other sheepskins too.

The one i have, I bought about a bunch from AG, They are the smaller square ones and seem to work well. They hold enough sudes and water for washing a small section at a time. I have had good luck with them holding up as well.

The Mother's I've been getting from Amazon have been better than any Eurow I ever got. The quality seems consistent and they are very plush.

The difference AFAIK with patricks setup was that he cherry picked each one and classified them....

I suppose with every other suppliers - it comes in large cartons in which it's just *1* inventory/SKU for them.

I would suggest you get them locally, where available and ~cherry pick~ the thickest ones in the bunch.

One more note. Disclaimer - I have not used the Merino type of mitt in real world use. However, the style of wool it is, it reminds me of another *pet hair* in which I am familiar with and the wool may sit *flat* on the paint just due to the type/style of mitt it is..

I must be lucky, I've always ordered my mitts and I've never had a bad one :nixweiss

The one Griot's mitt I have is a different type of sheepskin...sorta like it's "spun" or something. VERY, very soft, but it can trap/retain certain types of gritty dirt, kinda like a MF mitt in that respect only maybe even more prone to it. Not a slam, I use it for the final passes on the S8.

Didn't I read somewhere that Patrick is back in business

Thanks for posting that, I wouldn't have considered them otherwise!

Good motivation to use the mitts very gently...holding them up off the paint and whisking them across the surface instead of rubbing them against it ;)

I ordered a 4 pack of the Eurow mitts from Amazon a few months ago and all of them were pretty good. Currently using the best out of the 4 and its been holding up well for weekly washes.

Not as nice as walking into Walmart and hand picking from every one they have (since they dont sell them at my local Walmarts anymore) but better than nothing.

Ive wanted to try others but Im going with "dont fix what isnt broken" for now.

Nope WalMart hasn't sold them in a long time but I gather from all the feedback here the chance is pretty small anyone will get an outright reject if they order from the site of their choice.

I have at least 5 or 6 Eurow mitts from Wal-Mart that I rotate in and out of duty. They are about 2 (maybe even 3) years old, but I sure that the constant rotation helps keep in good working order. I have looked at AG as a possible new source as they carry the Mothers mitt at a decent price.

Any comments on the merino-based mitts such as the Dodo Juice Wookie Fist? They look very plush and soft in the images, but they are fairly expensive (~$40) when compared to traditional sheepskin wool.

The mitts by Race Glaze were recommended to me once but I dont remember being able to find them available anywhere.

The GTechniq Merino mitt is interesting, its merino and cost less than the Dodo Juice mitts.

I wouldnt mind splurging on the Dodo Juice mitt as long as I knew it would last for a while, otherwise the 8.00 I paid for the Eurow mitt is a better value even if I only get a year or two out of each one. I might start rotating them like MCA mentioned.

I have a REAL old (5 yrs at least) Eurow mitt that still holds together, Ive relegated it to really low down on the body work (i.e. rocker panels) and inner wheels when I pull them off for an annual cleaning.

Bill,

Agreed about the looks in Walmart :)

People just don't understand...

It's just that I was spoiled with the mitts from West Coast-when I go back to my other Eurow mitt (when I am cleaning my West Coast mitt) it's like I am using half a mitt in both size in plushness.

I saw the Wookie mitt from Autogeek but I don't think I'd like using the style of mitt and my wallet would dislike it even more.
