Where can I get this set-up

Another 3m number for a similar version in the uk is PN09628. It looks almost identical to the meguiars one except for a red plastic. Not sure if it replaced the 09552 or what.

Edit

The part number for the yellow foam pad in the standard thread is 09553 and the grey foam is 09627. Supposedly the grey foam is softer than the yellow foam which is fairly soft to begin with. Maybe someone could try these numbers with their 3m rep?

I've got my local distributor checking with the regional rep to see if there is a comparable part in the us

There isn't. Many of us have tried already, but maybe 3M will wake up after all those distributors calling for them :D:D:D

I've seen a picture of the backing plate on the US site on one of their detailing pages.

I'm sure that they should becoming available soon. There is no reason to have it in one country and not another. It's not like it has to meet our VOC regs or something. The grey one comes from the finess-it line while the yellow one comes from the perfect-it III line. I've given all this info to the regional rep and he should be able to find out if they can get it in the US by the end of today....or so I'm told.

Jimmy, it does look very similar but it is $26. I wonder why you have to call to order? ADS does have it for ~$22 though.

This supplier has most of Meg's line, no tax, and free shipping on orders over $500.

Looks like a good alternative to the 3m plate, I think I have seen it before, I just never really payed attention to the thickness level, nice call Jimmy.

I don't know if it is worth buying the Megs ones. You might go through 3 Megs ones before you replace the 3M ones.

Why would you think that? I've had 2 Meguiar's rotary BP's for ~3 years and the are fine. The DA BP's are a whole different story.

Oh, good, so you have experience with the small backing pad. Is the pad just as thick as the 3M ones, because I want to get a set for my rotary?

No, I don't have the SOLO BP. I have the older "stiff" BP's both the small and large. To my knowledge Meguiar's has never had an issue with their rotary BP's but with the PC BP's.
