When using a foam pad...

How do you use a foam pad? Is it better to use it in straight, front to back motions? Or does it matter which way you use a foam pad as long as the surface of the car and the pad is clean?

I'm guessing that its fine to use them to apply something like #7.. say using it to work it in to the paint for awhile before switching to a terry towel? I've just been using foam pads to apply a thin layer, and then I switch to a terry towel right away.

Ditch the terry towel !!

You can use a foam applicator any way desired, although most believe it is better to use a fron to back motion.

Switch over to using microfibers for product removal......

I have always followed the manufacturer's advice and it has differed for different products. I used to do circles and had no problems up until I used this one product (can't remember the name now) and it didn't work out well at all and so I switched to straight back and forth, and I've been doing that ever since. My results are decent this way so I'm sticking with it for now.

I'm going to as soon as possible.. I'm waiting for the Autopia store to get the khaki microfiber towels back in stock. I'd like to get one of the ultimate drying towels as well and a few other things.

It wouldn't hurt to use a foam pad to work in something like #7 before switching to a microfiber to remove the rest then?

foam pads are safe as long as there isn't anything on the wiping surface that can marr the surface. be careful if the product dries on the pad because sometimes you get these little hard pieces that can scratch the paint. i learned this the hard way one time i was applying NXT and some of it dried into little bits and scratched the paint.
