When to Zaino a New Car?

I have preorder a Mazda RX-8 and expect delivery sometime in the early spring 2003. I will be telling my dealer not to prep either the interior or exterior of the car. :nono They can remove the white protective exterior plastic, check the fluids, check the mechanics, but do not mess with the body.



Since the car is manufactured in Japan, I imagine that the car will be about eight weeks old before I will take delivery. Is this long enough for the paint to cure before it receives its first dawn (blue), clay bar, wash and Zaino?

Hello RX8! Welcome to the forum… I hear the RX8 will be a wonderful car. A powerful rotary engine, manual tranny, and 4-doors! I assume you are getting yellow?



I would first suggest moving this thread to the “Detailingâ€� or “Autopia Universityâ€� section where most of these detailing questions are asked and answered. Then try using the search function; this topic has been discussed for quite a few times already. In addition, I suggest purchasing the Autopia eBook. Not only will it help support our forum, but it contains a lot of useful tips and instructions on how to completely detail your car. It’s highly recommended…



Your current plan sounds perfect. Any paintjob from the factory has been baked and put into an oven, meaning the paint is fully cured. So it is okay to immediately clay bar it and start Zainoing.

Paint from new cars is cured upon leaving the paint baking ovens used in the factory...SO go ahead and start your detailing process when you drive home!
