when is 3M rubbing compound neccessary

I bought a bottle of 3M rubbing compound. When would this come in? This stuff seem pretty abrasive

Its usually the first step in restore neglected paint.

I wouldn't use it too much...your paint will burn away if you polish it too much.

I find 3M PI fine cut rubbing compound to be more more aggressive than Meguirs DACP.If you can't remove all the swirls in DACP this is your next step.If you will use it with PC and yellow pad its very safe,I just remove almost 90% of swirls but not the deep scratches that means its not very aggresive enought but thats a different story if you're gonna use a Makita polisher.
