Wheelwells pitted??

Hey guys, I was washing my car today and when I went to wipe down my wheelwell liners, I noticed they were extremely pitted and felt almost like sand paper. Is this normal? I have a sports car that rides relatively low to the ground and has stock 19's, so I know the tires kick up a lot of pebbles and stones. Should they be in this kind of condition though?

Thanks for the help.

It all depends on where and how you drive. I'd say if you live in cali it would be very odd since all the roads are paved. If you live in Michigan where the roads are the worst I've seen and at the moment are covered in salt then it is very possible to pit your wheel wells. So yeah, the possibility is there but without knowing more about you/the car there is no way to say what actually caused it.

....I would say it's just a simple fact. It's obvious that they are pitted from road debris flung from the tires. How bad one liner will pit vs. another will likely be dependent on several factors. As for living in California, you should see the windscreen and front fascia of my car. ….stone chips galore (I hate gravel trucks).

My wheel wells are pitted and I live in SoCal like Kean. Not only are my wheel wells pitted, so is my windshield and entire front end of the car. You would think that with the roads being paved and relatively good compared to other parts of this country we wouldn't have any of those problems. The fact is there's so much crap on the roads it's pretty much unavoidable getting rock chips and what not on our cars.

At least Michigan is first in something besides unemployment. I'm amazed at the amount of gravel that washes out when I'm cleaning my wheel wells. That's just the way it is.
