Wheel towel questions

My Meguiars Water Magnet is caked with brake dust in some spots. I washed it twice but won't come out. Should I attack with Dawn by hand?

Also - what other towels can wheel towels be washed with? Would it be smart to just wash them alone since brake dust is so abrasive? (I did a CD test with my meg's towel which had some brake dust adhered to it, left scratches like crazy...did a spot which had no brake dust, and left no scratches).

Sure, go ahead and try it with the Dawn. If that doesn't work, you can try something stronger like Simple Green or some sort of degreaser.

I would probably wash my wheel towels separately. Like you mentioned, brake dust is full of metal particles and can be pretty abrasive.

I've never used a high quality towel on my wheels - just the el cheapo bulk pack terry towels from Costco.

I paid like 3.00 for my Water Magnets from Meguiars...so they are my cheap ones.

Try some Charlies soap in your washer to clean.....stop your wash cycle after a few minutes and let soak a while.

A trick I use that works frequently (I think I got this from the Charlie's site or a response of theirs on a laundry forum when I was researching...or from A.K.A Patrick!) is to pre-treat those dirty spots at the time I'm throwing it into the dirty towel basket with the Charlie's APC. On the other hand, I've found that the Charlie's Laundry Liquid itself works better as a pre-treat on oily food stains on clothing.
